Shipping a step fender--help? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I will be trying to sell a stepside fender, and expect to ship it by bus. Who has done this before that could advise me on how to package/crate it and ship it? Thanks in advance.

hey blu ... i BOUGHT a stepside fender from a guy in Arizonia ... he shipped it by UPS. But the box was just barley under the max size limit. Hope this helps.

fedex ground is the cheapest place to send oversized or heavy packages like that. make sure you insure it for replacement value. I have had them lose things before.

try gray hound i ship that way all the time fed x and ups and usps all have weight and box size limits adoor cost me 39.00 to ship

I used grey hound to ship 3-4 diferrent fenders. The last 2 I wrapped in carpet. Duct taped and wrapped with good string. $62.00 each from beaumont texas to denver colorado. Useing a box and packing will add about 15-20 dollars. I thought they were crazy when they told me to use carpet.

cut cardboard the size4" over the fender pad with wadded up news paperlay the fender down do same to other side then tape edgesand secure it w tape all around no charge fo the way you package somthing gray hound uses zone and wieght not size .if it will fit in a bay thay will ship it

Lay the fender out on a piece of 1/4" plywood and mark the silhouette. Cut out the plywood and bolt it up like you were putting the fender back on the bedside. This will keep it from getting torqued. You can save a little weight by cutting some big holes in the plywood-- just make sure you don't lose the structural integrity when you do it since that's why you'd want the plywood on there in the first place.

I shipped 2 stepside fenders to Iowa by Greyhound.
They are the only ones to use for oversize items like this.

I've had a fender shipped to me via Greyhound and I think it cost me around $40. It was wrapped in cardboard and was in good shape when I got it.

I issue Fed-Ex ground call tags for them and pay $20-$40 ea getting them to me, example bought 2 from txgary and they were $23.70ea delivered. I have everyone wrap carpet pad on them then a layer of high density cardboard or 2 layers standard cardboard cut and taped to follow the contour of the fender. Of 9 fenders shipped this way 9 received with Zero damage. Doing it this way they are Fed-Ex Ground OversizeII
