Speedometer Cable

I need a new speedometer cable. Chevy Duty sells them w/ Plastic Housing and w/ Steel Housing.

Which is more accurate, plastic or steel... and which will last longer? Thanks!

If my speedometer twitches, but is generally responsive to changes in speed... would installing a new speedometer cable solve the problem? If not, what else could be wrong? Thanks

Re: Speedometer Cable

Sometimes you can take out the center part (that spins) and lube it with white lithum grease. Disconnect both ends of the cable and pull the center out from the transmission end, it should come right out.
