1967 Father Son Build

Okay here goes the build page. Starting off with a numbers matching 1967 Small Window LWB 327 powerglide truck. Only thing that has been changed is the intake and Quadrajet carb came from a 67-68 Camaro. My Bro in law's father purchased the truck from its original owner over 25 years ago. This poor thing has been through its fair share of failed attempts at a restore or make over. So at thanksgiving they gave the truck to my 15 1/2yr boy with only one rule. Make him work on it and don't take it over. Duuuuhhhh like I would do that. For an Okie truck the rust is almost none. the kick pans on the inside have a little and in the bed where the wood bolted to the bed is rusted in spots. Otherwise she is about as straight as you can be. The truck came with a set of saddles and the in cab tank and is getting a full smooth down. (Door handles and all if I can get the boss to let me: Project hijacking alert) I will get some more picks and an update after the weekend.

Father/son projects are overrated. You'll probably end up throwing wrenches at each other before it runs...

Ok, I'm being synical... It really is a cool project and I'm sure it will look great when it's done!

Re: 1967 Father Son Build

GREAT IDEA! I helped build a 1967 Chevelle with my Dad when I was about 15 years old and it really brought us closer. He also taught me a lot of things. There is nothing like being able to do all the work on your vehicles.

I was the son in the Chevelle build. I have a 4 year old son now and he is starting to hang out in the garage with me while I work on the 68 and I love every minute of it!

Really cool... building a legacy and a bond that he will carry with him the rest of his life. One day he will pass on what he learned from you to his own child. Kudos to you and good luck!

Re: 1967 Father Son Build

My son and i built a 70 short bed step side.( real good times) Its the time you spend with your kids doing anything positive. I was in the garage with my dad when he had his 55 chevy 210/ v8 we would spend hours working on& cleaning his car that he always said was our car. now, I find myself doing the same thing with my two boys& think back to the time I spent with my dad & I know Its was time well spent. Love every minute!! ...Pat

Re: 1967 Father Son Build

Okay so not much has happened to the truck since the last post. Hey its the holiday's and we got 14.1" of snow here in Edmond, OK and it is snowing as I type this. Been gathering parts and tools for the project. (Cherry Picker, grinders, jack stands, dollies, cut off saws, paint guns, 3 heaters for the garage, etc......Total new tool cost $120.00) Parts that have been purchased so far are the following. 600 CFM Edelbrock, Torker II intake, Edelbrock Air Cleaner w/ K&N filter, 1984 Chevy front end, 16 Gallon Poly Fuel cell (Total investment $200.00 for parts)

So other than aquiring parts and putting together the project list the only thing that has been done is. Drum Roll Please..... We took the bed off and put it in the back yard. Yep that's it nothing else I know its dissapointing.

We did however decide on having the frame powder coated. Any ideas on color for the frame? Truck is going to be Velocity Yellow when it is done pending another color break through by Chevrolet.

Re: 1967 Father Son Build

Cool new parts and toys is always good

Are you going to make this a driver or show queen?
Powder chips and you cant fix it unless you just dab paint over it, mine is going to be a driver/shower, if its on a trailer and it runs then its been stolen
And im going to just paint and clear mine that way i can fix it if something stupid happens, but thats just me

Here are pictures of some of the moldings that we have taken off of the truck. This is all of the lower moldings and the molding around the cab. Not bad shape for being 43yrs old are they.

Certain trucks yes but this one was partially filled in before i got it. So just finishing the process.

Going to do the drip rails, door, front bumper, back bumper, pinch points under the truck and most likely the cowl also. Going to leave the CHEVROLET on the tailgate as you have to say it with pride.

You ave a good looking truck though.

I love the truck 2 toned with the chrome. Really brings all of it together. but we are doing a solid color so just didn't feel it.

Re: 1967 Father Son Build

Father - Son builds are great. I read them all. I wanted to do one with my son, he joined the Air Force a couple years ago and we hardly see him. Don't get me wrong I am very proud of him (even though I'm a Navy vet myself). Keep it going, you will create memories you will remember a lifetime.

Re: 1967 Father Son Build

Okay quick update with a pic or 2 Truck is down to the frame. Purchased a 72 5 lug with 3:73 in it and have swaped the cross member from the 84 to the truck. My powder coater here in the Edmond area had to relocate and took down his 21' booth. So its either spend 1000 and have someone else do it or just finish it myself.

Has anyone used any of the coating products that Eastwood or Summit sale?
Also how in the heck do you get the ignition switch out of these things?????

Here are a few pics.

****THIS IS NOT THE '84 FRONT END*****

Re: 1967 Father Son Build

Looking like a great start to a project!

The ignition switches are tricky on some, but if you put the key in, turn it to the accessory position and stick a paper clip in the tiny hole and push hard, it should pop right out. Some of them are very stubborn though.

Good luck on your build and remember to enjoy it
