Hi there, Im new here and I thought id start off by asking you guys opinion on something. I hace a 70 c10 and it has all the trim on it right now, the top moildings are pretty much scrap they are so beat up, the bottom looks to be pretty good. My dilema right now is trying to decide if I should pull it all off and weld/smooth the holes or if I should leave the lower moldings in tact? Thanks for any help you guys can shed.

I think they look better with the trim. Mine was in really bad shape but believe it or not, with the right tools and time, you can repair it as good as new. This is mine after a few weekends of work.

WOW that looks fantastic! If you dont mind, what ools/materials did you go about using? Mine doesnt have the woodgrain, its just black in the center.

I'm one of those monochrome people. I say weld it ALL up. Seal that thing up tighter than a frog's butt. Foose designs aren't popular for chrome fender flares.

I stripped the anodizing with a 10-1 mix of sodium hydroxide (lye)and water then used a regular window screen roller to gently push out the minor dents. On the bigger dents I used a formed plastic bar to tap and finish with the roller. It was sanded smooth with one of those Sonicrafters that you see on TV and buffed with black cutting compound and a denim wheel. I sent it out to a local shop to re-anodize and then i used SEM trim paint and replacement wood grain tape from LMC.
Here's a picture of the grill after stripping, removing dents/pits and scotchbrite. I'll buff this weekend and send to the anodizer.

In my opinion I like trucks with the trim on. My favorite look for one of these trucks are to make them look like they just came off the assembly line but with lower suspension and a nice set of wheels. Just an opinion though. I have also seen some bad ass trucks with everything shaved. I guess I really wasn't any help was I.

On two guys garage they had some kind of do it self anodizer, but I missed the name It looked pretty cool. There's a nice set of trim on K.C. craigslist for 100 bones.

It just depends on what look you are going for, but I like them with trim.

not for sure of your age, but it seems to me the older I get the more im drawn to the original look of these trucks I think alot of people get caught up in what alot of other people are doing I've heard alot of people regret welding up their hole's and wished later they hadn't. Hey what ever float's your boat right. I like trim!

I think im going to either scrap the top moldings, and try and save the bottoms. I think with the bottom trim and the emblem badges, the truck will have the best of both looks. Thanks for all the help.

I just got new upper and lower trim for my 68 gmc swb. It did not have trim to begin with. The bottom is going to be asy, but the top- say if you layed something flat on the top of the bed (on the flat surface) and measured down to the top of the trim... how far is it? I want to get the measurement right. And how many holes are in the short bed, big plus if someone can tell me what size the holes are to!!!!
