Vent window rubber? HELP!!!!
Ok, I got all the new rubber and channel for the vent windows on my 67. I even bought new hardware from LMC to install them as there appears to be some form of special rivets holding things in place. Well, In the pack of rivets there is a little tool that looks like a center punch of sorts. How am I suposed to attach these things? A pop rivet tool will not work on them. Any help is welcome. Thanks!

What a coincidence, I am having, or rather, have just had the same problem except I bought my seals from Chevy Duty. Anyway, when I find an excuse to buy a new tool I do it. I purchased a $13 pop rivet tool and purchased a couple packages a varying length 1/8" diameter pop rivets. They are fun to use a work well. By the way, how do you put the window and vent window back in. Its been a pain, neither want to go back in easy. Thanks, -Tim

I had the same problem with rebuilding my vent windows. I ended up putting the flat side of the rivets on a hard surface, then placing the "punch" looking thing on the other side of the rivet, and using a hammer to flatten that end. It worked pretty good besides a few that i couldnt get the punch very straight on.

I have been looking at it, and thinking maybe a large C clamp used to cruch down the rivet heads may work. I dont know. I am thinking about farming this job out so I have someone to scream at if they still whistle! :0

You use the tool (punch) to spread the rivet it rolls the hollow end over, when you drill out the old rivet dont make the hole any bigger. You should have got special rivets for the window henge. Make sure that you paint the frame be for you assemble.

hold a bigger hammer on the backside of the rivet. put the tool(cant think of the correct name right now) on the other side of the rivet and hit it with a bigger hammer. its not that hard. good luck, Ben

I haven't "been there - done that" yet, but I'm about to.
Would it work to put the assembly in a vise with the tool behind the rivet and then tighten down the vise? |

how much did those window assemblies cost?
And for those of you that have painted the bars and the frame of the vent window, what paint do you recomend and how would you go about doing so. The way mine were done we used a ratchet handle in a vise and the tool and a hammer.
I did't like the way mine came out so I bought new ones from Rick's for $129.00 each. The quality of the ones I got suck. ------------------ 1969 GMC S/B S/S 3" drop
