Intermittent Wipers???

Is there a replacement switch for the wipers on the 64 that will upgrade the wipers to intermittent? I live in Oregon and most of the time its drizzling and it really gets old turning on and off the wipers. Thanks for any help with this.

Re: Intermittent Wipers???

It will take more than just the switch, I think.
Here is an article I ran across awhile back.

Re: Intermittent Wipers???

I think you could just use the switch from a 76-87 delay wiper truck, wouldn't look right but it would be cheaper

Re: Intermittent Wipers???

You can get a universal type aftermarket wiper delay conversion from JC Whitney and some others. The problem with these type is that when they go into delay mode the wiper arms just stop wherever they are on the windshield. They don't 'park' like an OEM system. From what I've heard the New Port Engineering conversion puts the wiper arms into the 'park' position during delay mode.

Re: Intermittent Wipers???

We have used the cable driven wipers from Specialty Power Windows

http://www.specialtypowerwindows.com/main.php

They worked flawlessly and are well made. However they are not made for these trucks so there is alot of modifications to the under side of your dash to add cable drive mechanism. Not too bad but if you are not into work its not a route to go,
I wanted to keep the glove compartment. Otherwise the install is not real hard. Great products that work. It returns to park to. Not cheap but they work

Re: Intermittent Wipers???

So, from all your comments, these 1966 C series wipers are supposed to go to a "park' position when the switch is turned off?

Not mine. Whereever the wiper arms are, is where they stay. I have to plan my switching off the wipers.

Any ideas why? I would like to have them stop in the park position.

I don't have any experience with these, but I had remember seeing them....

Re: Intermittent Wipers???

Thanks for all the info, I really like the Newport Wiper outfit and I think I am going to give them a try on my Sons 64 Shortwide. If I like the product I will probably use the same thing on my 56 Short Step.

There is a little set of points in the wiper motor assembly that is supposed to keep the curcuit closed until the wipers park probably easiest to replace the whole unit than to repair??
