Re: Old gas disposal

do you live in the country? If so then i'd burn it, very carefully though... depending on how much you have you could also mix a little at a time in the lawn mower...

can't really dump it without causing damage to mother earth...

Re: Old gas disposal

just don't kill yourself or your water supply, by dumping it that is...

you could also check the yellow pages for hazardous waste disposal...

Re: Old gas disposal

Oh im not dumping it . It would smell for miles . Prolly filter it and run it in the generator or lawn mower with like a 5 new to 1 old mix . Pollution was not an option . Just thinking someone might have a better way .

Re: Old gas disposal

Maybe check with your local recycle center. Might be able to recycle it with used out. Or call your local autoparts store. They might be able to help.

I wouldn't dump it on the ground or burn it. It is polluting either way.

Re: Old gas disposal

DONT run that stuff in anything, mixed with new or whatever. It's just asking for trouble.

I've mixed some with diesel before for fire starter. I'll use it on burn piles, or to burn the weeds out of fences in the spring.

Mix it in with your waste oil, thats what I've always done. I think most walmarts that have an auto center will take waste oil for free.

Re: Old gas disposal

Burn pile, just use a wad of paper you can light and throw from a distance for safety's sake. Standby for the giant wooooosh and 40 foot tall fireball that 5 gallons of old gas and 20 foot burnpile makes. Tons of fun.

Re: Old gas disposal

DON`T MIX IT WITH YOUR WASTE OIL!!!! You foul up the whole process. We`ll all be asking how to dump old oil if we screw that up.

I save my old gas for parts cleaning and starting fires.Gas goes bad so easy.I wonder what is provided for us to dispose of it properly. It`s kinda hard to get rid of 10-20-30 gallons and it doesn`t take much for it to go bad.I just haven`t had that much to deal with, yet.

I agree. I had to get rid of a lot of old chemicals (paint, coolant, thinner, etc.) and found out the the county had a recycle center for such items.

Whatever you do, DON'T get any on yourself. That stuff burns like a mother! Of course, I was dealing with 13 year old gas...

Re: Old gas disposal

All of these from experience.

Don't get it on yourself or your clothes cause if you're married your wife will make you sleep on the couch... Hard to get rid of the stink.

Don't dump the hole lot in a brush pile and then move back about 30 feeet and throw a flaming torch at it. It will explode like a bomb and blow your hat off your head (or worse).

Don't use it to kill grass, weeds, or anything that's close to the house cause the smell lingers and nothing will grow for a year or two in that spot.

Don't use it to kill grass on the fence line cause your neighbors will hate you.

I'm a slow learner.

I agree don't mix it with waste oil, I know someone who years ago dumped less than 5 gallons in the 150 gallon waste oil tank at work and the company was liable for the whole truck load not just the 150 gallons which was contaminated here in the bay area we have a hazardous household waste center which accepts just about anything

we just pour it in the waste oil heaters at work. If it burns, it goes in the tank.

yeah.... don't put it in the waste oil you are going to take to the autoparts store or where ever to dump. It messes the hole thing up.

Re: Old gas disposal

Don't even get me started on this. I just went thru trying to do this in San Diego and basically it boils down to the fact the local hazmat recycling place is not setup for gasoline. I can bring in 5 gallons, in my own container, which I must leave. To legally transport it, it must be in a approved gas container, which I would have to buy. Since these are not free, I get to spend my money on new gas cans, that I have to leave and as it is, I can't bring more than 5 gallons. I have 15 gallons.

I told the idiot on the phone that I know why people illegally dump stuff all the time.
