redline?
i put my tach on today in my 1972 gmc c20 a sunpro 2 5/8" not too big but doesn't distract from the clean stock interior, and i wasnt sure what the redline was i thought maybe 5000? but i was revving it and finally seeing the rpms corresponding with sound and around 3500rpms it sounded like it was gonna shoot a piston to the moon my dad says he remembers his 292 he threw in a jeep had a factory suggested 4200rpm redline is this correct? i didnt see any redline suggestions in my manuals thanks guys

Re: redline?
LOL... I guess i coulda looked at your screen name.
I'm not sure what the redline is on that one, but 4200, maybe 4500 is probably about it. |

Re: redline?
I`m not sure, either. But,over 4,000 you`ll be out of the power band anyway.3,000+ is prolly a good shift point for running it out.

Re: redline?
that's pretty imaginative using an exhaust clamp...I've always seen hose clamps used on the column

Re: redline?
I think those tachs are adjustable for 4-6-or 8 cyl. engines. If the switch is not in the correct position, you will get a false reading. You probably already know this, just thought I would mention it.

Re: redline?
True, but the stock 8 cylinder tach only went to 5000 also... And I could rev the sh... stuff out of my v-8. I think the previous posts of around 4000 are a good ball park. No need to have the pistons swapping holes, especially if there's no power up there anyways.

Re: redline?
So where is redline on a stock 350?
Does it have a governor to regulate it, or can i spin it till she blows?

Re: redline?
You can spin it till it blows! Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt! Actually, I'd put redline on the 350 at somewhere around 5500, so not far off from what the tach maxes out at. If you open up the intake and exhaust, you might squeeze 6K out of it, but in stock form, you're way out of the power band at that point, so there's no point to it. All the 350 truck engines to the best of my knowledge are 4 bolt mains, which can typically stand a little more abuse... But it all depends on the condition of everything.
