Truck we used to race dirt track with
It was a 79 frame with a cab shell from like a 96, aluminum body we built. 520hp 350 SBC, .500 lift cam, Holley 4412, 14:1 compression, extremely lightweight rotating assembly. the class was essentially a hobby class in a truck chassis. 10" wheels/tires. we ran a 3/8 mile dirt oval, did 120+ on the back straightaway. i wish i had more digital pics, i have plenty of prints from the track's photo guy. |

Re: Truck we used to race dirt track with
i think we ended up with like 3240lbs, 56% rear weight at a standstill (with no lead added) wayyy more than that under throttle. the minimum weight for the class was 3200.

Re: Truck we used to race dirt track with
yeah, ol' truck really was fast. i miss the hell out of those long saturday nights.
the late models on that track were REALLY flyin. nah don't have the motor anymore sadly. that was the best running motor ive ever seen. held together turning 7800-8200 rpm's every weekend for 2 years, and still ran great when wen snatched it out, just needed rings. btw, if you need a GREAT motor, look up Buddy Crenshaw in Brewton, AL. ended up selling the bottom end to a hobby car driver, the heads to a modified driver, the transmission (muncie 4 speed, wish we never sold the 2 we had) to a hot rod guy. wish i coulda put that transmission in my truck. and we sold the rolling chassis to a guy wanting to get a start in the class. i think we still have a few misc. parts layin around the shop. i know theres a couple Holley 4412's on the shelf up in the loft and a distributor or two. anyone else ever do any dirt trackin? |

Re: Truck we used to race dirt track with
Not dirt, but a truck anyway... I never got it to the track sadly. The track kept changing the rules and making it more expensive to race.
Now I have a '79 that I'm gonna build into a street legal version... |

It wasn't too bad. The cab was the only spot that didn't get skinned out... I was planning in doing it but never got around to it...

Let me pull this thread back from the dead. I was just bs-ing at work and found this thread. I hate I never got to see any of the trucks race at southern raceway or flomaton speedway. Just had to Reply Because I'm from Pensacola, Fl. Small world.
