Anyone have a hedman x-pipe?
I plan on getting one of these and was wondering if you put the x-pipe before or after the cats. or do they hook up to the headers?

we are in oklahoma, we do not allow cats here
either way, i think you would put the x pipe behind the cats, and then the mufflers after the x pipe |

the day I finally remove and throw away all the emissons crap then Oklahoma will make me use it all again. Besides we have cops in my town who would love nothing more than to give me that ticket for not having them. Plus this is a start if I have to move to anywhere else.

I have an X pipe on mine but it's not ewuipped with cats since I don't need them. On the piping you can add an X pipe with cats after but there's problems with this. Good flowing cats are not cheap. Best thing to do in this case is either get a dual in/out cat which would act somewhat like an X pipe. Also you could run a Y pipe then into a single cat all being 3" pipe into the cat then 2.5" after that runnig duals out of the cat. Some more trouble is that state laws can say that you have to have pipes like they were from factory as in Y pipe into single pipe then after that is up to you. Swervin's state has this issue. It's not worth trying to get around it up there.
My question is this- If you like in OK (my inlaws do as well) and they don't have any inspections and state law does not need any emissions testing then why are the locals wanting to bust you for not having cats? I can understand not having mufflers as a noise issue but not having cats even though state law says not needing them? I'd tell them to show me in the books where it says I have to have it for emissions.

I have been told by several people that without cats. I still violate the smog laws and the cops can fine me and impound my truck. If I can get the exhaust quiet enough I might leave them off. The farther the pipe is from the headers, cats, and mufflers is how quiet it will get right? Like if I were to have the tips right after the mufflers it would be louder than if it were farther away.right?

The X pipe is supposed to go before the catalytic convertors. In my state you have to have the X pipe installed behind the cats. Its better to have them installed after the catalytic convertor then not at all though. Generally smaller pipes are louder as in cackle more than bigger pipes - smaller mufflers / glass packs - are louder also. Closer you have the muffler to the engine the bigger it needs to be because of heat.
If you want quite with some decent flow look at Walker - Dynomax mufflers (super hemi turbos) they have real good flow and are supposed to be pretty tame and quite. jmo

Everyone keeps talking about two cats. I only wish they would let me use two cats on my truck. In my state, it has to be exactly the way it came out stock, which means one cat with a y-pipe. After the cat, I can do what I like. I have asked many different inspectors and they all told me it would fail with two cats.
Now, I've tried many different type mufflers and so far, the best I've used are the Hooker Aerochambers. There is no comparison between these and Slowmasters. They outflow the Flows by a lot. Flowmasters are one of the worst flowing performance mufflers made. All they are designed to do is make noise. People think if a muffler is loud, it is flowing good. Wrong. If you could see a Aerochamber and look into it, you would quickly see how it can flow so good. You can see all the way through it. They sound is fantastic. Not like some tin can like a Flow. After using the Hookers, I wouldn't put a Flowmaster back on my truck if you gave it to me.

I totally agree Mike. The Aero's are so much better. I wish I could get some and get rid of these Slowmasters. Much better sounding and flow better and cheaper!!
Smog laws? Call the DPS in your area and ask them the laws conserning smog equipment on your truck. Soudns like a bunch of BS on the police wanting to give tickets for something that's legal.

i believe the deal is, though the dont require emissions testing, the law still applys, if your truck came with them it must have them..
ryan, my truck is fairly loud, and yet have i been pulled over for it. and i dont have cats...

No you can't bolt the X pipe to the mufflers. Take a look at my setup to see what you might be able to do http://www.geocities.com/cjhicks1/exhaust.html

Dang Brandon. You need to rotate some of them pics. It makes me dizzy every time I look at them.
Do you have Photoshop or Paintshop Pro? Want me to fix them and send them to you?

I plan on taking new pics now that I have a new camera. I do have photoshop but hopefully will be getting a website next month so I can then make all new pages and get rid of geocities.

Hey mike are your aerochambers center inlet/outlet or are they offset. I cant find any center inlet/outlets in jegs or summit but on Hookers website they show that they make them. I can't get enough info on the edelbrocks to decide if I want to buy them and I dont feel like making a $200 guess. So I have it narrowed down to the Hookers and Dynomax Super Hemi Turbos.

Ok I have decided. I'm going with no cats. and the aerochambers. I just want the center inlet/outlet type. So I need to call holleys 1-800 number to find the nearest dealer.

Here in California, THE WORST STATE FOR VEHICLE CODES, a X-pipe won't pass emissions testing. Of course, anything but stock won't in California... don't you think the birthplace of the hot rod should have LESS stringent laws than MORE? Maybe I'm just a little bitter....

there is a muffler shop less than a block from me that should be able to do the job. I just need to check their costs.
