When the trucks where changed to Independent Front Suspension on the 1988 K trucks. GM didn’t offer a left hand pumpkin on any solid front axles that I am aware of.

Re: what year did they change the 4wd pumpkin over to the left

Wasn't the 241 case (with pass. drop) only in the trucks with the electric speedometer- the 90-91 V series trucks? I thought is was similar to the 208, but did not have a speedometer gear drive, just the provision for the electric speedo.

Re: what year did they change the 4wd pumpkin over to the left

1989 was mechancial speedo 241, if from a blazer suburban crew cab or cab and chasis (ive seen older body style cab and chasis's) then it would be a passenger side drop. the 90-91s were electric speedo.

Re: what year did they change the 4wd pumpkin over to the left

I know for a fact that 91 was the only year 205 had the VSS. 90 was a cable. I think the 241 got the electric VSS in 90 and 91.

So what would be wrong with using a Ford front axle? The straight axle trucks, before '80, had driver's side differentials.

Your 87 already have a 4x4 trans?

Your tbi might run off of the speedo cable. Mechanical cable. So find an np208 or a 1989 241 t case (rare) with mechanical speedo and go.

Get a passenger side pumpkin 10 bolt, dana 44, dana 60 would be the most (6 lug) and 3/4 (8 lug) configurations.

Is your truck already a 4x4? or are you converting?

As to the 231c, avoid it like the plague.

Re: what year did they change the 4wd pumpkin over to the left

yea it has a th350 and a np203 for some odd reason but the th350 is out so i was thinking a 4 speed np205 swap or a 700r4 np 208 or 241 swap probly easier

th350 203 would not have been stock. last th350 was iirc 85. Id look for a mid 80s 465/205 combo because they would be fine spline as opposed to the 70s trucks. Your current axle should be fine. Just need a new driveshaft front and rear, or yours lengthened/shortened as needed.

And dont forget, the parts needed from auto to manual swap, whether your going mechanical or hydrolic clutch. its easy, lots of guys have done it, just need the right parts, research first collect parts then do the swap.

I used to hear this alot and have to laugh. They are made my Dana, only thing that is Ford is some of the brake pieces. Can't remember which part. They did do some goofy stuff, but for the most part Dana 44's are the same.

If you wanted a drop in axle driver drop, the closest would be a 78/79 3/4 ton with the 8 lugs, or a 1/2 ton extended cab. They are basically a 3/4 ton axle but with 5 lugs.

Then just swap out the outers for 6 lug.

And I used HP60s in a couple of my trucks, one that is in my sig. Would rather use one of these or HP44 than a GM 44.
