cleaning disc brake backing plates

I would like some opinions on what to do about my disc brake backing pads. These are galvanized, but they have a little rust on them. What to do?

Should I spend the time to clean these up with a wire brush and sand out the rusty spots and find a way to keep them from re-rusting?

Can I sandblast and paint these? Any reason why I shouldn't?

Or do I need to replace them with new galvanized plates?

Re: cleaning disc brake backing plates

I've blasted and painted mine before. The finish on the new ones doesn't really look that great.
I think it would be personal preference.

Re: cleaning disc brake backing plates

Thanks for the advice! I just wasn't sure if there was something special about the galvanized finish
