Parking Brakes jambs throttle

I have just picked up a C20 1977.
The parking brake cannot be used because it holds the trottle pedal down. Everything looks straight, so does anybody know what the solution is, I thought shift the throttle mechanism sideways about 3 inches.

Re: Parking Brakes jambs throttle

Welcome to the forum jdaley. I am rather confused on your issue. I'm not sure how the parking brake could cause a problem with the throttle.

Can you post pics so we might be able to help?

Re: Parking Brakes jambs throttle

RHD yes
If I push the brake pedal down it locks against the middle of the throttle pedal. Nothing looks bent or out of place, its bewilderin.
I thought of shifting the accelerator pedal 3inches closer to the main brake pedal.
But it seems strange!

Re: Parking Brakes jambs throttle

why dont you adjust the rear brakes and then the park brake so that it doesn't travel so far down!

Yeah, I saw his location after I posted. RHD crossed my mind, but I'm still perplexed as to why it's happening.

Re: Parking Brakes jambs throttle

I think that the whole assembly may be mounted wrong...that's my only guess without pictures...you're going to have to get up under there and see exactly what's going on up there...for some reason maybe you have a LHD accelerator pedal assembly and when it's mounted in a RHD configuration it puts it over too far...or you can just do as already stated and adjusted the parking brake so it doesn't go down as far and doesn't touch the gas pedal...

Re: Parking Brakes jambs throttle

Thanks for the welcome.
I will try the adjustment technique first.

Re: Parking Brakes jambs throttle

I finally fixed this problem.
I moved the throttle bracket left about 1 inch with new bolts and bent the throttle bar sideways the same amount and everything now works.
Its nice having a secondary brake taht works.

Re: Parking Brakes jambs throttle

I had the exact same issue on my 1990 RHD C1500. It almost cost me a new pickup actually. A mate was reversing down the boat ramp so I could load my boat on the trailer. Not knowing that the park brake used to go right down to the throttle pedal he pushed it on whilst still in reverse. Jamming the throttle to the floor.....The water only came up to the back of the doors, luckily he quickly threw it into Neutral. One very very hairy moment.

Glad you got it sorted, its a less than average setup and I'm really suprised that they pass engineering like this.
Just picked up a C20 myself, what are your plans ?

Re: Parking Brakes jambs throttle

I intend to keep the 292, fit lpg, cut and polish the cab and leave it. I will fit air, silencing of cabin.
I extended the exhaust pipe 3M to get a quiter ride.
I race sidecars and the machine and all bits fits nicely on the deck.
I love the wide bench seat, I can get 4 across

You know, when I first asked about this matter, it seemed like I was the only person who had the problem.

Re: Parking Brakes jambs throttle

If you have the seat re trimmed, add something like an extra 2" of padding on each side and you can legally change the seating capacity to 4 people after fitting a fourth belt, works well as long as you don't have four big blokes in there, works real well when out cruising with a mate and you pick up a couple of chicks
