Best aftermarket "ratchet" shifter for the 73-87 body style trucks?

hey guys, im wanting to ditch my column shifter and put in a B&M/Hurst ratchet shifter, since i do a lot of drag racing. Anyone know which shifter works well in our trucks and is NOT known to break/fall apart after a lot of use (B&M Mega Shifters)?

Thanks!!

not really, i had one fall apart on a guy during a race and throw his car into reverse at like 80 MPH and over 4k RPM, needless to say hes lucky hes alive today, shattered transmission, shifted motor between frame rails (air scoop was sitting on hood behind cut out) and sent the car every which way but head over heels!

another one was in a nasty chevelle with nitrous etc., some pin broke for again the reverse lock out.

So id like to stray away from Mega Shifter/light truck Megea Shifter

Oh, wow. I've never heard anything major going wrong in them like that, but hearing that is enough to keep me away from them.

can't go wrong with a quarter stick...I made my own that is WAY over engineered but it is bullet proof

Same here. I have a Hurst ProMatic in my truck. It's been in there for nearly 3 years.

Re: Best aftermarket "ratchet" shifter for the 73-87 body style trucks?

I run a truck megashifter and it's been good to me so far. The only problem I had was that the lockout t handle broke. It's cheap pot metal, but I sent pics of the broken handle to B&M and they sent me a new one pretty quick. I think part of the reason it broke was because I was unconsciously putting sideways pressure on it when shifting into drive from park.

I've never heard of one of these falling apart. I'm pretty gentle with mine, I never slam the handle because there is really no need to.
