Wheels for the 55: 18&18", 18&20" or 20&20"

I'm ready to get my wheels now, truck is bagged and sitting low now on 15" wheels. I know the type of wheels I getting and know 18" Front and back will work and allow me to use tires with larger sidewalls but I want to know if I can run max of 20" front and 20" rear?
What do you all recommend?

I like to see some tire sidewall. I've never been a big fan of the large wheels.
I probably wouldn't go over 18" on the wheels.

I'm thinking that the 18, 20" would look nice also. OK guys post some pics of your ride with the wheels size and type so I can get ideas.

CAL,

You know you cann't just say 18 and 20 without giving me the specifics:
I need back spacing and offset on both wheels.

If you're going to go with 18s & 20s, just make sure to go with a rear tire that has a sidewall that's taller than the front. Too many guys get caught up in the big diameter wheel style and never consider that the 55-59 trucks look a whole lot better with the "big and little" look. There's a few guys on this board that have nailed that theme.

I'm with Kim57 on the sidewall comment. It'll ride a lot better, too.

I been kicking around this same ideas, either 15x7 front and 15x8 rear steelies with WW or 20/20 combo, maybe even try to stuff a 20/22 combo on it. (have plasma will fit) haha! that last combo is only if i decide to go with the 58/59 fleetside on my 57.. just my 2 cents... I think 19/20 would look the best but alot of wheels arn't made in 19s

Okay, 18X8's with a 4 inch back space and 20X10 with a 4 inch back space. I seen a few 55-59 chevy truck with 20's up front and they just look to big to me.

Thanks for the info CAL. I've seen pictures of the 20x20 and I think they look too big also.

Re: Wheels for the 55: 18&18", 18&20" or 20&20"

huh... next time one of you find a picture of 20/20 combo send me a pm. Cause many of the 18/20 combo's I have seen make the front wheels look way smaller then the rear. CAL pulled it off. I have drooled over his many times, showed it to my Dad (we are both doing TF trucks) I like the way CAL's sits with the 18s in the front. just like I said many times I had seen that combo done its to much differece for my taste. I like the big wheels myslef but I like the old school steelies look too. So I plan on going 15's or just say screw it how big can I fit in there. LOL

What I did was go onto some truck magazine sites and look at the featured articles. Choosing the same year/model trucks as mine and finding out what size wheels and tires they were running and what I liked. A picture is worth a thousand words not to mention the $1,000 bucks +/- spent on wheels.

Ok, made up my mind; getting 18x8 and 20x10, don't have the tire type and size yet but I know that the back will have 305/35R20.

One thing I found out after the fact was how hard it is to match up tire sizes going with 18/20's. I was on a budget which made it harder still, I bought my tires from Discount Tire Direct.com great prices and they are usually running special deals with mail in rebates and shipping is FREE. I had the front tire size already like you have the back, but it was still hard.

Re: Wheels for the 55: 18&18", 18&20" or 20&20"

Got the rims, now to match tires with rims. The tires I found are:

Set 1
Front: 245/45R18
Rear: 295/40R20

Set 2
Front: 245/40R18 or 235/40R18
Rear: 295/30R20

Which set would look better and give better ride?
