I didn't do much truck related this week other than put my yellow acorn light on top. I did however celebrate my 18th birthday today.

Re: What did you get done 12/20/09

No truck stuff this weekend.

My wife and I are getting our daughter's Honda painted for Christmas. Our daughter thinks the car is in the shop for mechanical repairs. The plan is to pick it up tomorrow morning and drive it straight to my graphics guy's shop for a tweak or two. The car will be returned Christmas Eve with a large bow on the roof. Of course my wife is having to take control of this project since I'm currently very busy with the UPS truck. I do all the work, Santa gets all the credit.

Chip Foose sure makes this look a lot easier on TV. LOL.

Re: What did you get done 12/20/09

I worked on trucks this weekend, but it wasn't my 77. Since I got my bed-cover installed on my 09 GMC I can put it to work. I switched wheels from my 06 to 09 on Saturday.

This morning I got up and started pulling all my stuff out of the 06. It had a LOT of work related supplies to transfer. As I emptied it out, I cleaned and detailed. I managed to get the interior of the 06 in pretty decent shape.

The Dent Wizard dude showed up mid-afternoon and started working his magic. It's amazing how many small dings you can collect in a couple years.

I finally got both trucks done as the sun went down. Perfect time to take a couple pics.

Re: What did you get done 12/20/09

Today I washed the new blazer and took her out for her first real voyage since the engine swap. I put a bout 40 miles on it without any problems. Im gonna start driving it daily now and see how it goes.

Earlier this week i worked on the suspension several times trying to get the stance dialed in...I think I finally got it where I want it...for now

It looks like it has rust under the doors but it aint. Its just the primer coming off from the PO. I also took the mirrors off. Not bad for only having it a few days.

Re: What did you get done 12/20/09

about 4 months ago, my truck had some serious ignition problems with the starter not working and the flywheel missing teeth...last time I tried to start it, it was having problems and smoke checked something under the dash, then it didn't want to even turn over, nothing...well, I took the gauge cluster, radio, and lower dash out and somehow it fixed the problem...I think maybe a couple of wires melted together and me taking things apart jostled them apart from each other...dunno really...still have to get the starter and flywheel installed...

also, went to Columbia to pick up a round headlight model cup holder center console for an awesome deal...thanks to DBLSPRT68...he drove to Columbia from Miss/Tn to visit family and brought it with him...so no shipping for me...

Chuck.

Re: What did you get done 12/20/09

I worked on my project chassis. I had to re-configure my rear shock arrangement vs. what I had previously built. On the last incarnation, I swapped in some 88-98 (GM truck) rear shocks (Bilsteins) on my 68 Beater. In order to swap them, it required raising the upper shock mount & fabbing an adapter plate that bolted in where the original upper shock mount was rivited.

Since I've raided that chassis of the rear housing & other parts for my latest project, I had to figure out what to do about the fact that I relocated the rear housing 1" back on this chassis to help center the wheels in the bedside opening. This meant the previous shock mounts would only work if I moved the entire shock crossmember back the same amount as the rear end. I thought that wouldn't look 'right' so I came up w/an alternative solution.

I made a new upper plate that will attach to the top of the OE shock crossmember. It will also mount a slightly shorter shock for even better fit (previous 88-98 shock was 23" ext, 15 comp; new shock is 21" ext, 13" comp). I'm going to use a a/g body shock (again Bilsteins).

It takes a while to research this stuff, come up w/a workable solution, design the basic bracket, & then do the initial fab just to see if it will do what you want. But.... I can say I did it myself (if it works right ).

Re: What did you get done 12/20/09

I took a few days off before Christmas to get a few things done around the house, and to just hang out with my wife and daughter. I took my truck by the muffler shop Friday afternoon to get a couple of exhaust leaks fixed that I thought might be affecting my timing. I had 5 exhaust leaks, and now the truck has a new 2 1/2" exhaust all the way back. I told them I was planning on lowering teh truck, so they tucked it up really nice. Any local guys needing exhaust work check out Bill's Muffler and Radiator in old downtown Plano. They did a really nice job on my truck, and it as really reasonable, too.

if you decide to not keep the "halo" vinyl top on that car, the trim molding that goes around it would probably fetch a good price on evilbay...that type of vinyl top is kinda rare...

edit: just looked at it again...it's not a true halo...a true halo has paint one side and vinyl on the other side all the way around...yours runs into the windshield it looks like...that molding is still worth money though...

Re: What did you get done 12/20/09

Well ....... the '86 is in need of a few items ...... previously I removed the unnecessary overdone rear bed air bag bridge. Now it's time to cover it .......... that is what I was doing today. Getting all the measurements for the aluminum I'll be bending & welding. As soon as it's done I'll post some pix.

yea, car was repainted and top was replaced, from what i saw the vinyl goes all the way to the windshield, but the trim doesnt?? i plan on keeping it, the middle of the roof is rusted through, i took the headliner off and its only the center, i took the vinyl up around the backglass and gladly its not rusted through, only a spot right in the middle, i dont plan a FULL resto, so imm just going to cut it out, patch it with sheet metal, and put the vinyl back on, it even has the original 14inch rallys, i have repo pairs of 15x5's ,15x8's and even an original pair of 15x7's and 6 original center caps, the center caps and trim rings to the 14's are in the trunk of the car, any idea what an original set of 14's go for? i heard theyre expensive but have no clue, i plan onusing the 15's anyways though

no idea on the 14's value...I just know about the vinyl top molding because I do auto upholstery for a living and I know personally how rare the halo and semi halos are...
