Re: brothers rear mount steel tank
Can't help on the fuel tank, but if you order from Brothers, call first to make sure it's in stock.

Re: brothers rear mount steel tank
That tank is know as the blazer tank. Lots have done the swap including me.......well almost and it seems works pretty good. I'm not quite done, still working on the filler but its not that bad of a project to get it in and hooked up.
Here's a few links to help. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=74876 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=82178 Side marker fill http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=77104 http://www.classicheartbeat.com/mark...t_gas_door.htm Good luck! heres mine (poly instead of steel). |

Re: brothers rear mount steel tank
I think you are trying to compare a custom made fuel cell(~$400) to this which is just a replacement gas tank for a 67-72 Chevy Blazer that happens to fit the trucks pretty good. Both the fuel cell and the replacement tank are very safe.
EDIT: price break down for mine Tank: $153 shipped (ebay) Sending unit and Tank straps: $60 shipped (Classic Parts of America) S10 Fuel door and filler $5 JY 1 1/4 fuel hose $15 (specialty hose)............If you need 1 1/4 fuel hose start calling around now, I finally found it on about my 25th call. 3/8 fuel hose 25' $10 6' 3/8 brake line to use as fuel line $7 Autozone by the way Classic parts has that kit for $200 and I think they have 10% off now http://www.classicparts.com/1969-72-...ctinfo/23-933/ Last edited by usmcchevy; 12-22-2009 at 12:14 AM. |

Re: brothers rear mount steel tank
My pipes are going to run right next to the tank. Will that be an issue?

Or the ones that mount inside the frame rails- there isn't much room in there with the trailing arm suspension. My poly tank has a sticker on it saying not to run the exhaust closer than 3". |

Re: brothers rear mount steel tank

Re: brothers rear mount steel tank
usmcchevy,
Just wondering about those side tanks, I have two and was planning on using them. Can you elaborate on this lawsuit? If it turns out that they are unsafe, I'll crap can them. Semper fi Devil Dog!!! |

Re: brothers rear mount steel tank
I have the dealer add-on saddle tanks. I am taking out my tank behind the seat and using these two tanks only. 2 18 gal tanks will be fine. If I get t-boned, then I will worry about a possible explosion then.

Re: brothers rear mount steel tank
Typical mainstream media BS though on these tanks (the regular original GM gas tanks). Either 20/20 or 60 minutes did an expose years ago on these tanks with demonstrations of impacts and big explosions/fires. Only problem with their tests was that they had to mount explosive charges to get the news they wanted. Came out after the fact.

Re: brothers rear mount steel tank
I wasn't arguing that they were as unsafe as the news made them seem. Just that for me, if I'm going to go through the trouble of re mounting my tank, I might as well make it as safe as possible. I still own one truck with a side mount tank on it and its staying right where its at.
