Rocker panel seam

I am currently replacing my drivers and passengers rocker panels and have a question about the aft end seam on the outside of the cab between the rocker panel and the cab corner. Some builds are filling the seam and others leave the seam visible.

Did the factory leave the seam visible?

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to filling the seam besides the look?

Any help appreciated.

From Factory, seam is visible.

Filled's only advantange is for smoother custom look (in my opinion).
If you fill it, wether weld or bondo, make sure you have seam cleaned before you weld or bondo it, and then make sure you seal it well with correct paint. I filled mine, and like it. Make sure you have your doors hung when you do this soas to fill in gaps and either create a rounded corner or square corner to match your door corner to the door opening corner when your door is shut. (hope that makes sence)

No the factory didn't fill the seam. I once read a real long thread on this board about filling the seam or not and a surprising number of people said it wasn't worth the trouble because anyone looking at the truck can barely see it anyway. I would say fill it if you're gonna make a custom along with smoothing the side lights, gas filler, cowl, etc. If it's just a daily driver you want, forget it.

Thanks for your responses. i will be using it as a weekend hauler, so I will keep the seam.

These trucks were built in many locations in the USA. As far as every truck getting this seam filled? Who knows. They did in FACT fill the seams on many and they filled many more places on these trucks. I drove and worked on these when they were new. These were not built to very good standards like now. Quite a few of my buddies worked on the assembly lines including some relatives. They even filled grinding and gouging marks on them. I have pulled plenty of them apart with seam sealer from the Factory

The seam was not filled flush but they did seal it
