Stacey David from the show Gearz has done a couple paint jobs with it and it seems like pretty good stuff.

Is that the stuff you can get at Auto Zone? Think I saw it the other day.

Re: has anyone used dupli color paint shop paint

yea the stuff at auto zone. 72hotrodder thanks for the advice but i don't have the monery to buy the good stuff and for what i am trying to achieve with the paint it will be perfict. i want to do a weather beaten or faded look on my truck so a single stage paint is perfict. plus from what i have heard from other people that laquer when it dries has a dull look which is what i wany. so i won't need to wet sand and buff it.

Re: has anyone used dupli color paint shop paint

The thing to keep in mind with that paint is that it comes sprayable. That means no reducing. So one quart of the laquer does not go half as far as one quart of something that has to be reduced. If you look at the cost of painting a whole vehicle with that... at $20 a quart. You can spend the same amount and get some higher quality Urethane or Acrylic Enamel.

cool idea with the pitina faded look. but most of the paints they have will dry to a gloss finish. but i think you can buy a flattener agent to add.

Re: has anyone used dupli color paint shop paint

I bet it will work fine for you, I was just adding my $0.02 . A friend of mine actually painted his whole car with it, (used nearly 2.5 gallons overall) And for what he was doing he ended up actually spending more on something that will fade quick. For you, now that I see what your going for I think it is a good move. POST PICTURES when you get er' done!

Lacquer is easy to work with since you want a dull look. It will tend to "die" and oxidize sooner too. The overspray is not as messy either. Drys before it can latch onto stuff.

Re: has anyone used dupli color paint shop paint

Lets see if these pics will load. I used some to work on a guys 78 truck. Like everything it has its good points and bad.

I plan on using it to paint a few of my projects with. One thing I that stands out in my mind is that I read I think on their website that a gallon should repaint an entire car....Well that's not gonna happen.

Anyways here are a few pics of a fender. This was just the color coat to get it orange after priming. I wasn't really going after a good final coat or anything. It had a decent shine when it dried. Of course it needed a few more coats and then the final wet color sanding with 600+ sand paper.

Its decent enough that I plan on painting my 3/4 ton with the blue from Duplicolor.

I don't know what your budget is, but I wouldn't paint my mailbox with that stuff. I haven't used it, but I have painted allot and for the effort it takes to prep your vehicle, I would spend a few more dollars and get a better product. I know you can buy a gallon of paint and hardener from Summit for around $100. That is single stage, with hdnr. Then you could clear it. They sell a gal of clear and hdnr for $105. I use a brand called Shop Line that is a decent product made by PPG and it is pretty inexpensive for cheaper type of jobs. Remember, you will always, always get what you pay for. In my opinion your truck will represent you and the work you do, so try and spend a little more on paint and get a professional looking job for yourself.

exactly! i have too good of luck with a base clear paint job to go with an old school technology like laquer paint. just a few more bucks and you can have a real quality paint job that will last.. And you can get flat clear if that's the look you want. IMO

I would not touch that stuff, it should not cost much more for a cheap enamel, like Nason , I can see that stuff falling off in a year or so and then you are stuck removing all that crap

Re: has anyone used dupli color paint shop paint

just found out that one my uncle used it on his s10 pickup and it looks great. it's been on the truck for months and he said that it holds up great. he works construction. he is on lots of rough terrain and condition and it still looks great some scraches but no pealing or chipping.
