Question Mystery Glovebox Switch

There is a three way toggle switch inside my glovebox. See images below. The 3 settings are On, Shock Off, and Off. I have always wondered what it does since I bought my truck. Any ideas?

Re: Mystery Glovebox Switch

My next step was to follow it to see where it goes. I just thought I would see if anyone knew. It does not seem to do anything when I press it. Thanks, Gang!

I would say this was a switch for an alarm that had a shock sensor. Just my .02

Re: Mystery Glovebox Switch

Is it for the am radio?

"A switch-off shock muting circuit for use in an AM receiver comprising a muting element disposed in a signal transmission path extending from the antenna through the demodulation and low frequency amplifying sections to the speaker of the receiver, a power switch and control switching means interlocked with the power switch, the control switching means being operated at an earlier time than the turning off of the power switch to thereby control the muting element, whereby spark noise caused by the power switch is prevented by controlling the muting element from the control switching means to thereby interrupt the signal transmission line earlier than the turning off of the power switch. "

Re: Mystery Glovebox Switch

I doubt this has anything to do with an alarm. The glovebox is one of the first places a thief would look, right?

Re: Mystery Glovebox Switch

The shock part reminds me off an old timer here locally, He had a coil somehow wired up to his cars body. When somebody would come along and lean on his car they would get a pretty good jolt. He had it switched inside the car under the dash, it was funny as heck to watch when he would be sitting in the car somebody come over to talk at him, and he would hit the switch "ZAP".

Re: Mystery Glovebox Switch

It's the switch to the spark plug under the pass side seat to shock the sh*t out of the person sitting there, was fun in the 70's

Re: Mystery Glovebox Switch

From my understanding, these switches are used in amplifier circuitry to prevent feedback voltage during on/off switching. The switch redirects the current to the circuitry designed to prevent this type of feedback noise.

Since it`s not factory and it`s only on your truck I think it`s up to you to teach us something.

Sounds good to me.I`m no electrical engineer,so I`m not familiar with all the terms used. But,that doesn`t make this explanation wrong.Somehow I somewhat followed that and I recall the "thump" from AM radios back in the days.I understand this is a way to cut power to the speaker until the radio is powered up.Before stereos there were many enhancements used on AM radios.A reverb switch is the one I recall.
