Re: SPID question

Thats interesting...because all the SPID's I have seen list engine and tranny's. It's possible yours for some reason didn't list your engine and tranny but... is it possible that your SPID is a replacement? Just a thought.

Re: SPID question

the spid only shows options, not base equipment.
Since second digit on your VIN is an E, that means V8 gas eengine.
Base engine on a V8 truck in 71 would be a 307, and a 3 speed manual would be the base tranny since it is a 1/2 ton truck.

Re: SPID question

I do agree with LonghornMan on this. If it didn't list it, it would come with the base engine, and with you vin # it indicates v8, which the 307 was the base v8. Trevor

Re: SPID question

color was optional. The base model paint color was that siver/pewter color... can't remember the name. The same color the inside of the 67's were painted.
While I do have documentation of that in GMC records, I HAVE seen white trucks with no optional color listed.

Re: SPID question

The SPID I posted is from a 1971 pickup. Lets focus on this one, I am getting confused Longhornman, you saying the black vinyl trim and medium bronze paint is optional? How much extra did these colors cost?

This must be the world's record for the shortest SPID!

Re: SPID question

I can just imagine a 1971 dealers advertisement for this pickup "1 at this price" in small letters.

Re: SPID question

i don't have a listing on what colors cost, if at all. However, the fawn was he standard color. There was probably a standard int color too, but I don't recall off the top of my head.
You can scoff if you like, but this all comes from papers from GMC sent to the dealers.

Re: SPID question

Options on spids start with letters, such as A,B,C,D etc. For example G50 is heavy duty spring, F59 Front stablizer bar, M49 Turbo-hydramatic etc.. Paint color and trim color do not have a letter prefix. The paint and trim # and model # on spid is only listed for informational purposes. IMO, I cant imagine an extra charge for selecting any of the available standard colors of paint and trim. Only extra charge I can see if it was a special order color or trim.
