Wheel size problems

I have a 06 silverado 1/2 4x4 long bed. I just bought a set of 16x8 pro comp wheels for another truck but I'm wanting to put them on my 06. I've heard you can grind a little off the brake callipers to allow room for 16in rims. Has anyone one done this or is this a bad idea? Thanks for the help
