Rear end 5 lug convert
I have a 67 12 bolt rear and i want to convert to 5 lug. I bought a 72 12 bolt and was going to just swap axles but i got them in and notice they are about a 1/2 inch longer. How do i make the back brake work with this setup or should i just change the whole rear end? I am worried about the backing plates and the drums not lining up with the shoes.

Re: Rear end 5 lug convert
The axles won't work. Just swap the entire rear end.

Re: Rear end 5 lug convert
i would just swap the whole axle. sounds like you done have them apart, i would put in some new bearings and seals and use the 72.

Re: Rear end 5 lug convert
Thanks...only thing is I only have the housing and axles for the 72 rear, and would have to take the guts out of the 67. Anyone know offhand what size socket for the pinion and yoke?

Re: Rear end 5 lug convert
Are you aware that you can buy conversion axles for the 67 rear end? That's another option to consider.
