Decided, since my alternator was going bad and my truck needed a radiator, that I'd upgrade to serpentine:

All the brackets came from a 1993 Caprice 5.7 wagon. The alternator is 1992 S10 (for the clocking of the mount points), and the coolant reservoir is from a mid 80's G-body pontiac.

Serpentine brackets installed (with smog pump and A/C delete pulleys)

As it happened, the new 7 blade fan fit in my original (heavy duty cooling = oversize fan) shroud like it was meant to be

Water pump didn't have a heater core inlet, so I made this out of parts from Lowe's

Alternator wiring cleaned up

Alternator wiring 2

New battery cables and coolant resevoir

Shot with everything installed

Upshot: Upgraded to serpentine, and closed cooling system with resevoir
Cost: ~$150, not counting radiator or battery
