Axle ID
I was looking at the frame of a pick up, 8 lugs, I didn't get a long enough chance to take any pictures or look at it very well (busy trying to get another one running) I know the frame was a 73-87.
The only number I got off of it was GM 82. Is that enough information to tell me what it is? D60 or Corp. 14 bolt I'm thinking.

Re: Axle ID
I don`t know by the number. It wouldn`t be a Dana 60 from factory and most likely a 14-bolt.I it was an`80 or newer it could be a semi-floating 14-bolt,the 8-lug with no hub protruding. It looks like a 1/2t the way the drum goes on over the studs.

Re: Axle ID
A Dana 70 would be a dually, correct? I found out the pick up is a 81.
If I took the leafsprings off of it and put them on my halfton corp. 12 would they bolt up? I want a little more towing capability, I have the engine and transmission but the damn thing squats with anything more than 300 pounds.

Re: Axle ID
Yeah,on GMs the Dana70 would be on dual wheel pickups. The springs should bolt up.Measure from spring eye to spring eye, front to back. They should be 52"+/- on both trucks. The longer springs are 56".I doubt you`ll have that on either.Yo could disassemble the extra spring packs and add to your springs, also.Fine tune them. Most likely if you take the longest leaf (not main leaf w/eyes) an slip thae into your pack you`ll see a big difference.

Re: Axle ID
The short spring come in light duty 1/2 tons. The longer springs come in heavy duty 1/2 tons and bigger. If youve the short springs and the others are the long ones. Your frame already has the holes to relocate the spring hanger.

Re: Axle ID
Hey 2ton,Im offering you some advise. You need to find some tact.Take the time to word things a bit better and you`ll be good. The way you worded that is downright inflammatory. We all offer our info based on our experiences. No one knows it all and we just try to help.No one knows everything.I`ve seen you post wrong info and I carefully corrected.I don`t know about you,but it matters to me and most other people "how" we are corrected.I`m open to being corrected. But,if someone goes about it wrong I ain`t listening and the critic is just a jerk.

I'm considering it, every weekend I have something heavy in my pick up truck and it squats, and to be honest it's a little embarrassing. (like an engine or a load of firewood or some scrap)

Re: Axle ID
What I meant with "fine tune".You could just take some leafs from the heavier pack and add them to yours, according to what works best.It depends on which length springs you add and where how it will change the ride/carrying ability. You wouldn`t have to remove your spring eye bolts. That`s usually a big pain to do.I`d try adding the longest leaf after the main. The first one w/o the spring eye (for bolt and bushing). The clamps from the heavier pack can be used, since they are larger.
