recurving governor on th350
I saw this on another post and thought i would ask. When re-curving the governor, what makes is shift later. Less weight or more.

try an adjustable modulator first...

Lighter weight should make it shift later,usually if the gearset is changed(ratio change),or a trans is used from another app the shift points will be off. if you are only off a little bit, the adjustable modulator will probably take care of the problem. In my case ,I had a set of 4.10 gears, & the trans came out of something with 2.73 gears. I curved the gov,& then used modulator adjustment to fine tune the shift points. it took 2 or 3 trys to get the gov where i wanted it,but the hardest part was jacking the truck up! You will only loose about a quart of fluid when you pop the cover to pull the gov. good luck......69longhorn.

Thanks for the info. I think I will try the modulator first. If I don't have any luck with that, I'll go to the next step.

I just changed my TH-350's shift points using a B&M Shift Point kit. I also have 4.10 gears. Where are your shift points now, and where do you want them to be? I will help you all I can if you let me know this information.

hi..my shift points now are @4000.....i would like 5200

You will need a shift point kit to make this change. I used the B&M brand. Don't know if anybody else makes one or not. If you can determine the weight of your stock weights it would help. I was luckey enough to have access to a grams scale. To make the rpm change that you want requires very small change in weight. I went from 4500 to 5600 on my rpm change.
If you can get the weight of the stock weights you first test should be with changing one (1) of the stock weights to the next lighter custom weights and make a test run. Let me know what rpm' you get. Remember it's trial and error. Good luck. |

Hey, LT-102. Where did you get your B&M shift point kit and what's the part number? A few years ago, Summit Racing told me it was no longer available. By the way, for everyone reading this, there's a good section on modifying governors in the "Turbo Hydra-matic 350 Handbook" by HP Books. I lightened my inner weights following their instructions which increased my wide-open throttle shift points. And I think it might have changed the RPM range of the modulator adjustment. I do know that the modulator is totally bypassed at WOT.
