Some questions about my 71 C10

Hi guys,

im from Germany and i bought me a 71 C10. It have a 400cui engine and a th350 or 400.

Befor this car, i had a G20 Van. Now i have all parts of it.

My questions:

I have no brake booster in my pickup, can i take it from G20? With the master cylinder? I know i have to do some work to fix it on the firewall, but will it run?

On the engine is a Edlebrock intake manifold, with Edelbrock carb, can i put the TBI from Van on it? Do the TBi have enough power to run on my engine?

On van i have a Th700 wil it fit under the C10?

I hope someone can help me.

Your English is probably a lot better than my German.

Search this forum and the world wide web for TBI conversions. It has been done before. However if you have a stock 400, it is really a 402 which is a big block engine. Your van is probably a small block so you will need to find a TBI intake for that big block. I'm not sure if that exists.

The 700r4 will work but you will need to make modifications.
It also depends on if you have a two wheel drive or four wheel drive truck. ALL trucks were badged (chrome emblem on the fender) C10/C20/C30 even though some of them were actually 4wd trucks K10/K20/K30. However NO truck came from the factory before 1972 with a big block and 4wd so lets assume you have a 2wd truck.
I know more about that swap in a 4wd but many folks on here have done the two wheel drive 700r4 swap. Again search can be your friend.

Andi, looking at the front of your motor, the left side of the block,where the head meets the block there is a set of numbers and letters. you may need to remove the alt and wire brush that flat area.there should be 3 capital letters like TJZ(THATS MINE) copy them all down and post them or PM them to me and i'll be able to tell you exactly what engine you have also the right rear of the block had a raised serial number casted on the blocAK,(3970010) write them down and get them to me also. you got to know exactly what enging you have. thanks for your answers.

Its a small block, the two inner tubes from the exhaust manifold are closer then the other. At big block i think theyr at the same distance. I know the motor code is on the right head, i have to check that when i change the belts. Ill do that next time.

So it is a small block, so the intake manifold from van fix? (van is 5.7 with th700)

But more necessary is the question about the booster/cylinder. Its realy hard to drive here in town because nobody give attention to my old car. But in looking theyre very great

If the van motor is a vortech, then the intake won't fit the 400. You might find an aftermarket intake manifold for the older engine or you could take vortech heads and drill steam holes to put on your 400.

Not sure about the brake question. I would think your original master cylinder should bolt to the booster but booster to firewall will require more. Power brake trucks had a bracket and actuator rod linkage differences from the non power trucks.

Yeah, i know the work with the brackets and with the rod. I have learned a metall job about 3 1/2.

I have make many calls to shops and have search allot in internet, but nobody can say: this is possible.

The guys on the phone says: The brake system is not for booster, you have to high pressure. or You have to change the master cylinder too.

Guten Tag, you will also find more baord members from Germany in our International section.

You should be able to make any brake booster work with some fabrication. The lines might need adapters for the master Cylinder though. There are a lot of "bolt-on" kits or used parts available as well.

I'm not sure how much power gain you will see with the TBI, you can ask the experts in our Engine section of the baord though.

@msgross: Nice, in past i was in Darmstadt too, but just on vacatation. I have the parts (booster/cylinder). First of all i want to buy so new one but the shipping cost will kill my money

I also need a dashpad cover, its costs 50$ but 250$ to ship it to me. Thats crazy.

Next time i build some brackets an usw to use the van combi.

see if any of our board vendors can ship cheaper... look in the vendor marketplace section... Most of them sell the dash pads and other aftermarket parts.

LMC truck is great for catalog pictures, but not their customer service. Use their website to find the names of what you need.

Hey guys, long time away, but i wasnt lazy

Just added the brake booster, it was easy but it took me long time to fix the leak in the rear brake line (at the rear end, where steel and rubber go together). I was shocked, at bleeding all the fluid from the mc reservoir run away! searched a long time, it was a 5mm cut from rust. Right in the corner where the line was bend.

Its my first car without brake booster and i thought it was normal (hard to stop)
but now i know i just had brakes in front! I was on 150kmh on highway, im glad iam alive

Just cutted the bench, removed 13cm and assembled it to one, upholstery is not my favourite work.

No, no Vortec, the 5.7 is from 1990 and the 400 from 1971

Im thinking about to build me some adapter plate, then i can stay with the edelbrock intake on the 400.

What do you think does the 350 tbi run with the 400?

Nice work on the door panels. I'm sure the seats will look great. This forum is a life saver. I usually post a question before I start any major work so that I don't make a mistake early on. Your truck looks great.

10.69 mpg is about all you can expect with a th400 transmission. The very best I get with my th350 is 13 - with a tail wind.
The distributor should work - if it isn't a computer controlled one.
Perhaps the best thing would be is for you to post the engine IDs so we know what you got and what you want to swap in. On small blocks there are numbers stamped on the passenger side, in front of the head. There is a small pad where the factory stamped an engine ID and part of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
On the back of the block there are also numbers cast in to the engine casting. Posting both will help.

I have the numbers (behind the alternator) from the engine out of the C10.

1st: K1121FCU
2nd: CF1135247 (the 7 is original a 6, but it is punched over)

Have try to decode it myself, but didnt get it.
