Distributer Question

I have a 72 GMC with a 250 CI Inline 6 and i want to put a HEI Distributer but Im not getting much help from any of the parts stores. Could someone tell me what year they switched to HEI or give me a part number or something for the correct distributer.

Looks like you can use one from a 77 Nova or a 75 Camaro according to post #25

Re: Distributer Question

HEI showed up in '75 across the line with GM. You should be able to use any inline 6 HEI through the last year of the inliner. '85? Not sure what last year was.

Re: Distributer Question

a tip on this.If you plan on adding AC to the 250 then you need to get the dist with the divorced coil. The AC will not fit with the coil in cap dist.At least that is what I have been told.

BTW I have bought 2 Hei for 250 and payed $25.00 for each.Local JY.

Re: Distributer Question

Like Mike says it came out in 75. The 75-77 was the divorced choke type. It is best to get one from a salvage & clean & repair it yourself. If you go to a parts store each unit is separate. The dist., coil, cap & wires. You will have well over $100 in it.
