Picked up another one...

Happy New Year guys. You know its strange, for years I kept my C-10 and was content to fiddle with it. Never had much time or money to really do it the way I wanted. Now I am, well not so much lately, but it's coming along.

What's strange is that I always had an urge to have a blazer, just love the body style, but never really came across them much.

It starts with one I found in a local junkyard. Then while looking for parts I find another one and buy it, and part out the first one. Then I find a good deal on an Arizona tub, huge sheetmetal upgrade, but then come across a 2wd in a farmers sideyard. So I eventually get that and part it out, saving the frame and a few other parts. So I basically have one that is a runner, but in sorry shape yet, and another that is a roller and will be a future project for myself or maybe someone else.

Then along comes another parts blazer from someone that is a member here, but rarely uses the board. He sent me a PM a while back about a blazer frame part, and after talking a bit, I learn he really just wants to get rid of the whole thing. The frame is cracked, the body rusted and banged up, the drive train is long gone, but there are some usable parts there yet. All he wanted was some cash for the wheels, some pretty nice aluminum slots, and I always liked slots, so a deal was struck. I had a pair of reproduction fenders I wanted to sell, so we traded even up, the blazer for the fenders. I picked it up today, 270 miles round trip. It was too dark to take pics tonight, but I'll get some posted friday. The owner was great, patient and helped me out. I'll be going back in the spring for a 2nd top he has. The hatch looks pretty good and the top is in way better shape than the one on my 2wd now. It just wouldn't fit on the trailer with the blazer.

No big plans for it, just parts I think. The floor looks way better than my jimmy so I might use this tub instead. The rear frame horns might be good too, which is what started the whole thing. Windshield frame is shot. The power brakes are still there, rear seat too, front seats are not original. I'll just park it until spring and deal with it then.

Just thought I'd share... and Happy New Year, again.

Re: Picked up another one...

None of bad stuff was done by the guy I got it from. He bought it that way and was going to make improvements, but never got around to it. Ended up parting it out and giving the rest to me.

Cracked frame above passenger side rear axle

Home made U bolts for and rear lift blocks

Rusted windshield frame

Dash is stripped and has oddball seats, I believe the driver side swivels.

Has a roll bar too.

As far as rust goes, looking underneath it seems more solid than the jimmy by far. The outer sheetmetal is rough, most would be repairable. I'll decide later what I'll do with it.

Looks like some good parts there. That lift kit and U bolt is a little "spooky". Nice wheels...

You got that right. There was a nice set of 4-6" springs up front, but the owner kept those. He has a 71 K-10 longbed he uses for offroading.

That was the wifes Christmas present 2 years ago. No joke, with a bow and everything. It's comfortable, but not the best for heavy loads. Air ride rear end that gets bouncy, P rated tires that don't help much. But for the other 99% of the time, it is an outstanding ride.

Re: Picked up another one...

How did I miss this post!

Nice score - especially for the price. plenty of stuff there to work with for sure.

If I had a trade for a few parts for a blazer carcass I would do the same thing.

Curious to see the pix/progress as you move forward.

Congrats!

It might be original, not sure. But it fits good.

The price was definitely right, but I spent $50 for the trailer, another $50 or so for gas, the fenders originally cost me over $200, so not as cheap as it seems.

I took some time to look it over today and I think I really got a winner. The rear floor is almost rust free. The problem areas are the cut dash for radio and the rusty windshield frame, inner rocker on pass side, probably the same on the drivers, some rust and dents in the rear quarters. Looks like I could replace the windshield frame and swap the body over to the Jimmy. The frame is cracked, but also rusted through on the driver side over the axle. The doors are rusty on the bottoms, repairable, but not sure they are worth it. The rear seat is a recovered original, without the hold down brackets. All of the lights are there and look like they work.

Should be an interesting summer.

You still have one that will make a stout wheeler. If you want another blazer you'll be able to find one that's a better start than this one was.

I was looking the frame over a bit today and figured out why the frame bent and cracked. When the lift kit was put in, the shocks were not long enough, so they made some brackets to lower the shock mount rather than buy the right shocks. Too much stress in the bottom of the frame because there was no good support. The passenger side is cracked there and the driver side is bent and corroded and would have broke eventually. Did you know the rear differential was dry?
