Fake Flashing Alarm Light - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Has anyone installed one of those fake flashing alarm lights in their truck? Where is the best place to install these? Pictures would be great. Here is what I just received off of ebay.

personally i think these kind of things are useless but you could install it so it is on the dash bezel near the column where you will see the flash from the left side of the vehicle

I know these will not set off an alarm but it could make someone think twice about breaking into your truck. A poor mans alarm I would guess.

i will say this i live in a big city and here alarms go off all the time and nobody bothers to even look..it got to the point where they changed the alarm laws so they have to go off and reset ofter three minutes to having a siren that hardly makes any noise to the point where they are outlawed in NYC
Ive had cars with alarm stickers and alarms and frankly i just kinda gave up on them
I guess when youre out in the country or a smaller city where more of the population has respect for others, it makes a difference . Here in NYC nobody cares about the next guy.

those might have helped in the 80s when car alarms had them. Today I wouldn't bother.

I do live in a small town of around 10,000. So nobody uses these? I guess it's no use in installing then.

if you think it will make your truck safer or go with a look you want then go for it... personally i dont think it will do much.. kids will be kids druggies will be druggies and a pro dont care what you have if he wants your car

If it will give you piece of mind when leaving your truck I say go for it !

You never know, It could save your truck.

I got one that came included with my keyless entry/alarm system.

I put it here. you can see it from both sides and the back (if you're tall) and except when it's flashing, I forget it's there and nobody ever notices it.

Being a former LEO, I can tell you that someone who wants your car/truck could care less if there is a little flashy light or not. And I'm in a town WAAAAY smaller. Anymore, car alarms are nothing but gravy money for the manufacturers, and a nuisance for everyone else. I do know of LEO's who have written noise violations for rampant car alarms!

As someone who sets off alarms almost every single night nobody pays attention to them. The vehicle owner never even hears them when I end up having to open the car right in the driveway or parked next to the house. Alarms are useless as is the club and most other vehicle devices. Anyone with any sense thats serious about stealing cars at this point is using a tow truck. In and out in less than 15 seconds. Btw im legally taking the cars.

the easiest way to stop anyone from stealing valuables is to not leave them in the truck. our trucks are incredibly easy to break into. between the wing windows and the sliding back window. the other issue is most vehicles have a flashing light whether they have an alarm or not and most people know it. removeable face plate radio,keep everything valuable out of sight or in the house and leave the doors unlocked so you dont gotta buy a window too. If somebody wants it bad enough they will get it.

I also wouldn't bother installing a flashing LED to deter folks. I'd suggest using the time to install an electrical cut-off in the ignition system. I've installed a cut-off switch (hidden on the outside of the cab) to disable the electric fuel pump on the trucks with such pumps.
