Anybody -- is the '39/'40 cab the same as '41 - '46?
Fellas,
I'm looking into a new project, and I'm considering some capatibility issues. While the forward sheet metal (grille, hoods, fenders, etc.) clearly evolved, does anybody know if the cabs of the 1939 and 1940 chevy 1/2 tons remained the same through the war years ('41 - '46)? any comments would be appreciated. I don't know the answer to your specific question but I can tell you for certain that the cab for '41 and '46 are not the same! You probably already know this but the rear window is different in the '41 (retained with a pot metal frame and bolts) than the '46. The headliner is also different...though marginally as EITHER a one piece or a two piece headliner will fit either cab with only the addition or subtraction of a metal retaining strip in the middle of the roof.
If; by chance, you're asking because you want to install '39-'40 front sheet metal on a '41-'46 cab, I asked the same question over on Stovebolt.com and the answer was an emphatic, "NO!" I asked because I like the earlier front better than the later. Incidentally, my "46" - so titled, has a '41 cab on it. I don't care but I assume my truck is an assemblage of rust free parts off various '41-'46 parts including a rust free '41 cab. Last edited by Dan in Pasadena; 01-05-2010 at 02:56 PM. |

thanks for the feedback. Incidentally, I'm asking because I want to know if I can install a 41 - 46 cab on a '39 frame, with '39 forward sheet metal. I hadn't even thought of Stovebolt.com -- this will be my first foray into the '30s and 40s. DTT

DTT, ME TOO!
I sold a 5 year restoration project Porsche last August and intended to buy a '67-'68. I'd never considered an earlier truck but one fell in my lap. I went to see it 3 times before I finally realized it was as rust free an old truck as I'd ever found. It already had a lot of the heavy wrenching done to it and was a price that I could re-sell it for if I decided I wanted out. I like my truck a lot but I still sometimes think of trying to sell or trade it for someone else's 55-59 or 67-68, but so far I am just plugging away at it a bit at a time. Keep making posts so at least the two of us will have something to talk about! You may find (as I have) that Stovebolt is a bit too slow compared to this site and since it doesn't allow you to direct post pictures, I find it less useful even though there is a lot of info. Their search function is awkward too; at least I think so. Let's see your project! |
