Hello All! Newbie here with a C-10
Just bought my dad's almost restored 1969 Chevy C-10.
Dont know much about it other than it's on a c-10 72 frame. High performance engine parts galore. This sucker is fast.. And with that in mind it eats gas like no tomorrow. Of course I have developed a lead foot in the process so now I have to learn how to ease off on the pedal. I still have yet to decide if I am going to keep it. My dad has only owned for for a few short years so there is no family bond with the truck yet. It's my daily driver as of now but feel like I need something else to commute to work in. Re: Hello All! Newbie here with a C-10
Thanks for the info. Looking to find some resources and if I decide to sell would sell local only so not really looking to put ad out on the internet just yet. Hell, after driving the thing for 2 weeks I am going to be hard pressed to give it up. I love the thing already. Just really wanted to know its worth as there are not too many resources on the net to help me in that regard.

First off, welcome aboard. My advice would be, since you're enjoying driving it, I'd keep it for a while considering the economy. It seems like the market is flooded with old vehicles and no one with any money to buy them.

Yeah, that's what I am thinking. I need to get a commuter car in the meantime as this guy is brutal on the gas. Any ideas or mods for these trucks to improve gas mileage? |

Re: Hello All! Newbie here with a C-10
You didn't say what drivetrain setup it has, but somethings to look into are gearing, overdrive trannys, a gas mileage minded tune on the carb, and the obvious; after the newness wears off, ease off the gas pedal.

Re: Hello All! Newbie here with a C-10
Thanks for the info. I have a long way to go as far as learning about this truck. Reading what I can from the forum. Yeah, I am thinking the best way to conserve on gas at the moment is to remove the gas pedal

Ya know.....an afternoon could swap a h@rny motor for a "stock" motor, what is it-21 bolts? My guess would prolly be 10+ mpg difference as well.
KEEP IT!!!!!

Re: Hello All! Newbie here with a C-10
You must look into a cheap fuel injection ,like a junkyard tbi satup. An overdrive trans[ 700r4 or a 200r4] would be the best choices. Those changed all though expensive on the front end could pay for itself soon depending on you drive times. Jim

Re: Hello All! Newbie here with a C-10
Welcome from Miami!!!!!
As far as gas mileage you can put a newer vortec engine that will definetly get the gas mileage way up.

Re: Hello All! Newbie here with a C-10
Either that, or do as most of us guys do, and hae another vehicle as your DD - use that one as a weekend driver. I guarantee you if you sell it, you will regret it. That's a real nice looking truck.

Re: Hello All! Newbie here with a C-10
and from Ohio. As others have said your truck will only get between 10-15 mpg depending on engine and rear end gearing. You have one fine looking truck and if you read the link below you will see the 67-72Chevy & GMC trucks are fast becoming ICONS similiar to the tri five (55-57) Chevy's. I would keep it if at all possible and purchase a DD (daily driver).

Re: Hello All! Newbie here with a C-10
Thanks all for the feedback. Lots of options to consider. I have decided to keep it on the drive into work today. I love this thing. I plan on taking the camper shell off and lowering it a little bit. Not planning on slamming it in any way but just want it a little lower to the ground. Looking into the vortec engines but I don't really want to replace her spirit as I like the way she sounds now. Weekend driver she will be but in the meantime I am getting my old volvo fixed to offset the gas cost!
