Blazer Tailgate Torque Rod Installation**Added Pics**
Finally getting the 74 Blazer back together after about five years and our memory is failing us. We have the torque rods installed in the tailgate and connected to the anchors on the frame. We have some additional brackets that appear to attach to the achors some how and help hold the rods in place, but we can't figure out where they attach. Anybody have any pics of theirs or know how these things attach. Any help is greatly appreciated. Jeff

Re: Blazer Tailgate Torque Rod Installation
Nobody has a early model Blazer they can look under? If anybody does, I just need to know where the bracket in the picture that I posted goes. I'm assuming that it goes over the anchor that is mounted to the rear framerails. Just need to know where the two bolts that are on the bracket bolt to. Please Please Please, Pretty Please even..

Re: Blazer Tailgate Torque Rod Installation
I think they go on the lower lip of the gate. If I have some free time this weekend I will take a pic of what I think your looking for. I took mine off when I add a roll pan, so its been 5 years ago..

Thanks Travis, Free time is hard to come by these days, so no rush. By the way, how in the world did you score that Tahoe so cheap??

Re: Blazer Tailgate Torque Rod Installation
I will try take a look at mine tomorrow. the truck is burried under about two feet of snow. I also have a '74 repair manual that might show it.

Re: Blazer Tailgate Torque Rod Installation
I looked at my blazer and through my '74 and '86 service manuals and could not find anything that looked like those. I have a stud on the frame the rod hooks around and the rest of the brackets I saw are much heavier.
They look like they should hold the connectors for the tail lights. Mine does not have them. Maybe that is why my tail lights would collect snow and ice and unplug themselves. I can't find a picture in the service manual, but I'm thinking they go into the holes on the top of the frame. One of the holes is for the filled panel bracket. You could try Keith Seymore too. He might recognize them.

Thanks for looking, I appreciate it. What you show in your pic is exactly where we are at right now. It's crazy, these brackets fit perfectly around the achors that are mounted to the frame and appear like they should mount to a plate that spans between the two bumper mounts, And we had these tagged tailgate when we removed them. Just wish the old memory worked a little better. Thanks for taking the time to look and take the pics. Jeff |

Re: Blazer Tailgate Torque Rod Installation
I'll try to look again this weekend when it warms up. They look familiar.

Re: Blazer Tailgate Torque Rod Installation
looked on my roomates 86 and i see nothing wat so ever that resembles those brackets
id think by the shape maybe for like at the bottom section of a c10 where the "hindges" on each end would go into the body but on the 86 its a totaly different hindge its more like one for a house door |
