Sport Coupe??

what exactly did they have, my original hood emblem had sport coupe on it, what options did they have or was it just a paint scheme??

Never heard of a Sport Coupe...but have heard of a Street Coupe and a Sport

so according to the pages, the street coupe came with a 350?? correct and i had a full interior with trim? if this is so then this hood isnt original because my truck is a federal truck with a 305 and a 2 barrel

54CADDY, I read your original thread with great interest and studied your photos several weeks ago and almost contacted you then out of curiousity.I had forgotten about it until I read this.There are alot of similarities I noticed in body colors (carmine/cardinal) and badges(SIERRA GRANDE),dash color and bezel, dual tanks, GMC grill emblem on floor of cab,what trim emblem is on the dash? Can you post a pic of your SPID in the glove box? Inconsistencies I saw were door panels,seat ,tailgate,bumpers,grill,steering wheel.I understand they could have changed the front clip at some point but there's alot of two-tone on the cab as well.(sanding pics).Do you still have the emblem?Here are some pics of a 79SC.Try to post your SPID,hopefully it's still there.

mine originally had the sierra grande emblem on the dash, the steering wheel is changed with one from a 70s chevy car, the door panels are just covered my gpa did that years ago,damn the inside of my truck is the same color as the one posted, i do still have the emblem but shaved it off of the hood, the underside of my hood is same color as the hood posted, when my uncle originally got the truck it had a stepside bed on it, my grandpa and dad changed it to a fleetside one from a 81 on up truck, it doesnt have dual tanks either, the truck doesnt have any trim at all and the gmc emblem was off a tailgate band but i sold it. i dont know if this makes any help but is it possible mine is really a street coupe??

One sure way to find out is to check the sticker in the glove box.The other thing I noticed in the sanding stages is the upper part of the cab looked to be cardinal red and the lower part appeared carmine. The hood is the correct color as well.The firewall and top inside of fenders also looked correct.the outer lower portion of the fenders appeared carmine.????? Check the ID sticker.Here are a few more pics.

you are correct the top half of the cab and bottom half are different colors, fender also and hood, damn i wonder if the stepside is to i still have it but its in primer and also not close by. It does have the tilt and a few other things that the sticker says, i believe it a heavy duty chassis also all the parts for the drive line and ujoints were all under heavy duty and standard ones wouldnt fit it also has a Th400. damn but the only thing that doesnt match up is mine is a 305 with a 2barrel, which is stock because it matches the vin and its a federal truck so it doesnt have any emissions equipment like the california truck does, i dont believe it has the sticker in the glove box i will check thought ina bit, if it is really a street coupe should i put all the gmc stuff back on, i have the logos and dash emblem, also the stepside has a gmc tailgate and i have a gmc one for the fleetside too.

The Chevy equivalent of the Street Coupe was the Chevy Sport;both were RPO Z77 and were based on the mid level Scottsdale/Sierra Grande trim;they were available from 1978 to 1981 on short bed 2wd and 4wd .Most other options were available ...some were base 6 cyl but quite a few had 454/buckets/tach packages.If they are original they are easy to spot as they were the only 73-87 to have body color front bumpers with impact strips.

List price of the option in 1980 was $838.88;as a comparison the Silverado package was $580.00

Let's hope you can find the sticker.If not there may be someone here that may have ideas finding info through the VIN.????? If it was a Canadian built truck you could retrieve the history for a fee. 305 w/2barrel was offered in the 79 GMC brouchure so that's not an issue.You've done alot of nice work to your truck so far so it just comes to personal preference. If it were a SC it would be fairly scarce so I would think the value would be higher as stock.With that said,drive it ,enjoy it,you have a nice truck SC or not. Let me know what you find out. dang maybe it is one then, it sounds like it is one, with the paint that still exists it sounds like it could be one plus how the colors on the cab are the same exact two and it has all the right emblems, is there a way id be able to tell of the vin anybody know, ima going to check the glove box rite now and see if its there i dont believe it is though..

no i dont have the sticker in the glove box, i jus posted interior pics on my build posting, colors are exactly the same(i changed the dash emblem to silverado one still have the sierra grande one) so is there a way we can tell from the vin or am i jsut stuck at that.

Where was the truck built? Look at the 7th digit in the VIN (it's a letter). Can you post a picture of your hood emblem?

i have the top of the emblem in my truck i believe, its broken, so its not on the chrome mounting piece that bolts to the hood thats the reason why i shaved it and ill get the vin number here in a bit..

I was just checking to see if it was Canadian built. Does your hood emblem match the one above? What does the title read, GMC or Chevy??? Any evidence of decals in the door jams,original bed/tailgate,front lip of hood,etc.??? Possible trace of VIN# for previous owners at the DMV/Secratary of State.(probably a fee ) Other than that I'm not sure what other options there are.

its a gmc stated on title and vin first letter is T which is a gmc vin, i have a 1979 light duty shop manual that has all this in it. thats the only thing it has a decal on the door but they are a darker color than inside of cab look at them closely in build pics so i dont know if there the original ones, front lip of hood no no decals i put a patch panel and when i did didnt see any decals. i will get a pictrue of hood emblem soon.

hey man do you have an extra chevy sport emblem my buddy wants one for his truck, its not a real chevy sport he just likes the emblem, and here is the picture of my street coupe emblem its way fadded out.
