How much can I grind off?
How much can I gring off my lca to help clear my 8" rally wheels? If anyone can take a picture of how much they took off it would help me a ton, thanks

Re: How much can I grind off?
I wouldn't...I would find 7" van ralleys, put the same trim ring and center on that wheel and be done...that's what I did and you have to really look to notice

Re: How much can I grind off?
IIRC, the 8" wheels have 4" back-spacing & the 7" wheels are like 3.75". So there's not much difference toward the a-arm.

Re: How much can I grind off?
I cut off about 4 " inches of the lip off. Front and rear on the lower A arm. I cut it smooth and blended the sharp edges. Been like that for years. Did it to my dad's truck also. No problems. Might need to grind the ball joint area as well for 8" rallys. Also, 8" rally's should have 4.5" B.S and 7" have 3.75". I have 7" truck rallies on my burb with dropped spindles. No cutting at all. Plenty of clearance.

Re: How much can I grind off?
My guess is I'm going to be having the same problem when I do mine. Is it the 275/60 tire rubbing, rim or both?

Re: How much can I grind off?
Here's the only picture I have.
The blue tape shows the area that is already trimmed. (blue line shows how I cut up the bumpstop area) I agree,... find some 7" ralleys to help the wheels clear the a-arm and the outer edge of the wheelwell opening. But I always trim them anyway,... in case you want or have to throw an 8" ralley wheel on there. |

Any 15" rim with 3.5" backspace will be fine. Nothing that a grinder can't easily fix. |

Re: How much can I grind off?
Hey Adam,...
If you have a bare 8" ralley,... bolt it up after you trim the a-arm, (with the weight of the truck on it), and rotate the rim with the wheel turned full lock left and right. Also look for wheel weight interference after you get your tires installed. I still like 7's up front since the track width of these trucks are wider in front. Re: How much can I grind off?
No, he is saying that is the area that was cut...you can see how the arm steps up in that area...that is the trimmed off area.

Re: How much can I grind off?
I just put the blue tape on there to show the area that was trimmed.
(since I didn't have a picture of a stock a-arm to compare it to). |

Re: How much can I grind off?
In this picture,... it's the red lines that are the area of concern.
I also trim up the bumpstop bracket,... but that's up to you. |
