What year is it?

how do you tell all the different year models apart? so far what I've figured out is, for '67 there wont be any reflector lights on the front quarter panels, and a small back window (big back window was optional). for '68 they just added the reflector lights and made the big window standard. now from from '69 on is where I don't quite have it all down yet, I can get it down to a '69-'70 or a '71-'72 but not sure what separates the four there apart. are there any different trim patterns or something I'm missing?

Re: What year is it?

k......this is a good question...i may not know too much about body work but the history of the 67-72 truck i do....im kinda obsessed.
1967 small window was standard and big window optional. the bed was a steel floor on the fleetside and wood was optional but wood was standard on the step side bed. and of course no reflector light. oh and the hood with the slant and lettering across the hood.(also 68 on the hood.) engines available---L6, 250 and 292. 305 v6 only in the GMC trucks. v8s 283 and 327. trannys--- 3 speed manual, 3 speed manual with o/d only on 1/2ton truck, 4 speed manual, powerglide and turbo hydramatic. interiors---standard, custom, and custom sport truck (CST).

1968 no more small window, reflectors on front fender and bedside, engines avail.---307 v8, and 396 was an option. last year of the hand operated e-brake.

1969 first year for pedal e brake, hood changed to a almost straight angle, new grille design with lights and bowie put on hood, first year 4wd blazer, changed steering wheel from 3 to 2 spoke wheel. engines--- 350 v8

1970 first year for 2wd blazer, tool box on bed side, tilt steering, first year for hydramatic for 4wd, engines---402 v8 replace 396.

1971 interior changed to custom, custom deluxe, cheyenne on chevy. gmc changed to custom, super custom, and sierra. first year for the greatest invention!!!front disc brakes!!! first year for exhaust emissions on the trucks, grille redesigned, bowtie back to center of grille, and i think the parking lights changed colors and went to bumper. and cheyenne super and sierra grande interior??

1972 changed interior option to add highlander, changed door panels from metal to plastic. last year for the L6 292 in the 1/2 ton. if you cant tell the difference between a 71 and a 72, the 71 was the last year for the rear view mirror to be bolted to the roof and was moved to the windshield.

I think i got almost everything.....

I'm sorry I should've thanked you earlier, but lockdoc had more of what I was looking for, just appearance, but believe me I'm sure I'll be referencing your post in the future as its more in depth with lots of good info. so here's a big thanks for your time and knowledge.

Re: What year is it?

If you are looking for quick visual reference points, you have the ones for 67-68, visual references are in the grill on all of them. 69 does not have vertical bars in the grill (egg crate) 70 has 7 vertical bars in the egg crate, 71 surround has a black detail around the inside of the grill shell, that is often not replaced when restored, 72 no black detail, mirror affixed to windshield. Rest of differences aside from 71-72 disk brakes are visible from interior.
