Possible deal for Al's new 68 c-10!!!!
I am trying to make a deal with a gentleman from north carolina for a 68c10. I found it on another website. I have been contemplating the idea of just adding air ride to my truck and changing the front end but at the end the title will still say 71. So I have been searching for a finished truck as I do not want to deal with paint and body work and it has to be a 68 because it is the year i was born in. well I figured I would share the picts of the truck just to see what you fellows think of it. If I am able to make a deal, this one will get air ride from the get go and I will add the lower moldings as thats the way I like it. It seems nice on picts but you know how that is, everything looks great in picts. I am keeping my 71 and adding the 68 to the stable...I have been searching for a few months but people DO NOT have respect for money the ridiculous prices people are asking for some of these buckets. I dont have a problem paying top money if the item is worth it but some peoples opinion of perfect and mine are on opposite end of the spectrum. I would also like to have opinions about you think a truck like this one is worth.
here are details on the truck: 350 engine .30 over Sportsman 2 heads Speed pro pistons Holly street/strip aluminum intake Holy street avenger 770 carb. Accel high performance HEI ignition Hooker stainless steel long tube headers Flowmaster Exhaust. 350 turbo trans. 2800 stall 12 bolt posi. rear end 373 gears positive Traction 21 gallon Ricks stainless steel Fuel Cell mounted under the bed. Custom gages. This truck is "Super Clean" Paint excellent True Blue Metallic All sheet metal from GM goodmark No rust issues 2 inch cowl induction steel hood New fenders New tailgate Spray in bedliner Lowered 6 inches in back with all the right stuff - Shock relocators, Adjustable pan hard bar, C-notched and lowered springs. Lowered 3.5 inches up front - 2" drop spindles, 1.5" springs. New KYB shocks all around. Sits low and level. Centerline Galaxy II Wheels Toyo Proxy Tires New interior - Seats, door panels, carpet are all newly done. Cloth with Chevy emblem embroidered.

It looks really good in those pictures, Al. If it's as good as it looks I would say 15-20k, but I'm not an appraiser.. You don't mention the brake system but I find it kind of odd that it doesn't have power brakes...? Does it have power steering? LockDoc

Re: Possible deal for Al's new 68 c-10!!!!
Looks like a sharp truck. Clean on the outside, far on the inside. Looks like they spent alot on going fast, but not much on stopping. Manual brakes....does it has disc's up front? I can see that it still is 6 lug too.... It depends on how much it is and what your looking to spend on it I guess.

Yeah I took all that into consideration. the hard part is already done or I should say what I dont want to deal with (paint & body). The engine bay, suspension and brakes will have the Al's touch really quickly if I can make a deal..

It's up to you if that's a good starting point for what you want. You can change the things you want and make some money selling the lowering components you won't reuse. I'd say it comes down to if you like the color and the money is right...

Re: Possible deal for Al's new 68 c-10!!!!
Looks nice.
It's hard to tell in the pics,... but it's still 6-lug and the master cylinder looks like a drum brake version. Would it still have drum brakes on the front? (I know you said drop spindles 2"?) Plus you also said you would change all that. Filled marker lights make it resemble a '67 big window truck. I don't know how much that will bother you since you are looking for a '68. I really like your other truck better. But '71-'72 trucks are my favorite. Last edited by lolife99; 01-06-2010 at 12:01 AM. |

Pointing out upgrades that have not been done yet, even though I have the knowledge and the skill to do it all I cant forget that besides the price of the truck I have the additional expense of having to buy parts that should of been done in a truck for that much money..

Re: Possible deal for Al's new 68 c-10!!!!
IMO, the interior kills it for me... i dont like the wheels...but you're right, it would def. look better with the 68 trim...im also on the fence about the cowl hood....as the the brake system, knowing you (atleast what ive read on here anyways) that's gonna get changed out, also the engine and tranny are going to be changed too (pretty sure i read a LS power plant)... if i was gonna buy that truck, tops id pay is 10g, but thats just me...also is that a roll pan, or just missing the rear bumper?

Re: Possible deal for Al's new 68 c-10!!!!
All in all a decent start like you said Al. As long as all the body work was done RIGHT and not a hack job in disguise you should be in good territory. But I am with 68 short and you, id pay around 10g. The economy isnt helping him and his efforts to sell.

Re: Possible deal for Al's new 68 c-10!!!!
I'd agree that with all that needs to be done to make it yours, 10K would be the max it would be worth to me. Also consider you will have to cut out the roll pan (body work/paint required) and he possibly cut the rear of the frame to install that so make sure the bumper would still mount.
I know you want a finished truck, but they can hide a lot. Look at project Jezebel on here.....read that thread before buying anything.... Have you considered a nice shortbed project that's almost at paint stage? I've seen a few on here and ebay lately...seems you have a good paint shop at your disposal and could drop it off there....could get the suspension/brakes done first so you don't have to worry about the fresh paint. Just something to consider....

Re: Possible deal for Al's new 68 c-10!!!!
It's really tough coming up with a price just by looking at pictures. There's to many hidden areas that you really need to check out in person. If it looks as good in person as it does in the pictures, I would say $12-15K if you planned on driving it as is. With all the changes you suggested that you will make, I would think $9-10K would be my (your) top dollar, . Let us know how it comes out.

Re: Possible deal for Al's new 68 c-10!!!!
idk.. if its alot more over 10k than its way over priced.
roll pan to bumper- no p/s, no p/b, still 6 lug- ugly wheels. side markers filled, fake gas cap on cab, cut dash, 2 different style gauges. change out dash bezel since he covering the choke hole with a sticker. ugly floor shifter, swap with a auto tilt column... u need to start looking out here in cali.. alot nicer trucks for way cheaper. |

Looks nice but not a "true" 68 like you are looking for, body wise.
