1970 El Camino?
I was wondering what you guys think of the 1970 El Camino?
My friend has one and only wants 400.00 for the car. He is only the second owner and the rear end is missing. the car is complete otherwise. It even comes with extra sheetmetal. I have always liked this year El Camino and will probably get it. I just wonder how hard it will be to find a rearend that will fit the car. Any ideas. Thanks fellas in advance. P.S. The car runs and needs to be restored but it in good shape. Minus the rearend. |

An A-body rear should be fairly easy to find.

Re: 1970 El Camino?
I had a '69 & loved it.
Got rid of it because the wife got sick of HER (mine would never cause problems) dotter always kicking it out of gear (Muncie 4 spd.). As for the 3rd member, just think Malibu. There's a few million of them out there. At that price, I'd grab it in a hot second.

Re: 1970 El Camino?
For 400 bones I'd pick it up, but I'm wonderin how much of it's left where you live? I mean, those things were prone to rust out at the rear window and the front of the bed even here in SoCal. I can only imagine what that one looks like in snow country.
I had a 68 elCamino and that thing was probably my favorite car/truck I have ever owned, since it drove like a car but I could use it to move engines around in the back. It had my burb 327 in it for a while, and even did a few runs down the drag strip in Pomona. Mostly stock set up it ran low 14's, nothing fancy but goes to show the versatility of elCamino's. The 1970 is my only real favorite of the 70 on up models, mostly for the front end and the SS package gauge cluster. Hurry up and get some pics of that bad boy on here so we can all see it!

If you want to keep it you can get a bolt in 12 bolt or 9 inch real easy but for a price.

Re: 1970 El Camino?
friend of mine has several of the rears over at his place. but there the 8.2's. shipping would be killer though. like said those rears shouldn't be bad to find. 400 ponies and it isn't rotted, I'd buy it.

Re: 1970 El Camino?
I'd say go for it, for that price you can afford to throw some $$ at it and have a great muscle car/truck. The '70 model with the quad H/L setup is really popular. I have a '71 Chevelle SS coupe that is currently snoozing in cold storage awaiting the spring thaw. (So am I for that matter, I hate winter !) Try going to www.chevelles.com and do some looking around. Great website similar to our own truckboard. I'm sure you can pick up some tips there about what to look for as far as rust prone areas, parts availability and such.

Re: 1970 El Camino?
I like the el caminos from 59-72, wouldn't mind owning any of those... 73+... eh... no desire to ever have one. ever.
If it's something you want, get it.

Re: 1970 El Camino?
I once bought a '75 and '76 together, a "project" deal. Had some NOS trim and other stuff with them.
I lost my storage space, and was unable to devote any time to the project anyway, so I sold the trim and anything else El Camino specific on feebay, and the rest locally, and made close to 4 times what I had paid. So I'm thinking you're looking at a really great price for a nice project car, one of the best looking ECs made, or if there is alot of good parts, you could part it out and make some money. Either way, I say jump on it before someone else does, if word gets out it won't last long.
