Unhappy roaring 4+4

hello,
have a `86 gmc 305 4+4 with a 700r4 tranny. my question is that when i get my truck up to 55 mph when it is in 4+4 there is a loud roaring sound and a vibration not a bad vibration but it is noticable.it has never done this before.it feels like something is out of balance with a roaring sound.any input will be great,thanks in advance,vmax

The first thing I would check is the slip joint in your front driveshaft. These tend to wear out fairly quickly, especially if they are not greased regularily. Grab the driveshaft at the slip joint and try to push it back and forth. If there is excessive play in the slip joint, you will have to have a driveline shop replace the joint/yoke.
