Vintage Metal Flake Steering Wheel

Just got a sweet vintage silver metal flake steering wheel in the mail from a H.A.M.B. member. This thing is in mint condition with no cracks and perfect chrome. I'll post more pics, once it's mounted.

Re: Vintage Metal Flake Steering Wheel

Mooneyes has had them for awhile. Was thinking of putting a light blue or silver one in my ride too. http://www.mooneyesusa.com/californi...ls-p-2136.html

I notice that they are sold out on the site but give a call if your really interested, they arent the best at updating their site.

I know I'm in the wrong forum here, but just wanted to say that my steering wheel is probably one of the most commented on items on my truck. More often than not, you can see the disgust on the persons face making said comment. I got mine from Mooneyes.

As long as it puts a smile on your face, that's all that matters. You can't please everyone, but you can make yourself happy...I love the old flake wheels...

Cool! I've actually thought of painting my steering wheel metallic green to match the roof on my '73. I know a guy who did that once. Held up pretty good.

Re: Vintage Metal Flake Steering Wheel

My buddy is a small hotrod shop whos also a Moon dealer, so if you are interested in flake wheels, or the white ones, give a little guy a try...

www.dandsrodandcustom.com

And on to a comment made above, you can paint over the silver flake wheels with your desired color and it looks great.

My buddys have done it several times.

They use transparent colors, so the flake shows through...looks *****en

He's "out of stock" on all the flake ones.

he is out of stock because moon is out of stock. grant makes all of them they recently moved there production to mexico and the quality is way down. i have been trying to order a white one since december 8th. i finally went with a covico marine wheel ups says it will be here tomorrow. markeb01 suggested it so thank you. the only thing i'm worried about is that it's 14 1/2 instead of 15". a little birdy told me that moon is about to start making there own metalflake wheels no solid colors though. so we will see. the cool thing about the covico is that it's stainless instead of chrome so no rust.

I had heard that on another site. Just checking, he might have had old stock.
Hows the Plymouth coming along?

Please let us know what you think of it once the wheel arrives. I'm really interested in how you like the rim. Can't tell if it's foam or vinyl on their website. I'd like to get one of the black ones if the rim is nice. I really like my original wheel, but the chrome is somewhat dull. It's virtually impossible to find one with mint chrome since they were really inexpensive when new.

Not really looking for one. I have a red flake one (10" Cal Custom), a black foam (10"Superior), and a chain (10") in my Plymouth. Made me go for a quick search in the garage.

Re: Vintage Metal Flake Steering Wheel

All mine are vintage and come off my cars. The red one was in my 59 Chevy truck back in the late 70's. The chain one has been in my Plymouth since the early 80's. The foam one came on my 60 when I bought it.

Re: Vintage Metal Flake Steering Wheel

I spoke to Mooneyes last month and they said exactly what Glendale said. They also told me that the Metal Flakes wouldn't be available till mid 2010. So I snagged up the silver one. Goes great with the silver truck. Too bad the interior is a bronze like color. One day I plan on a white interior with silver accents. Here's some pics:

Re: Vintage Metal Flake Steering Wheel

I have an extra stock wheel, and flaking it is one of my winter projects. Got most of the supplies then the temp dropped....................

But a big jar of sparkily flake makes me happy.
