putting on new Grant Steering Wheel

I am putting new steering wheel and they have confused me. The old horn assembly with the brass that is spring loaded I am wondering if I am to pull the brass out of my old hub or to leave it in and let the new one take its place.

Has anyone done this and can you help me. It is a Grant steering Wheel and grant installation kit.

Re: putting on new Grant Steering Wheel

yes you have to pull the brass plunger out of the turn signal cam, dont loose the spring, i used it with the new parts, the spring that comes with the kit is too long.

Let me know if you have any trouble, Ill walk you through it.

Just put one on my truck,

Smitty

Re: putting on new Grant Steering Wheel

I pulled the brass plunger out of the old turn signal cam, but used the new spring. I thought about the old spring, but did not use it.

I may take if off tomorrow and align the steering wheel a little more and use old sping as the longer one is really hard to get in.

Looks great and eveything works fins. Thnaks for the help!

The Stud in my column that you actually bolt the steering wheel onto is too short with the adapter and everything on it. Once i get everything screwed together I can't get the actual Bolt to catch. What do i do?

Re: putting on new Grant Steering Wheel

The directions on how to make the horn button plunger set up are a little hard to understand, but if you play with it you'll figure it out. You have to pull the plunger out, then I put in the new spring, then plunger, then the plastic insert, then use some tape around the plastic insert to hold it all together while you get the wheel on. It took me a few tries and some choice word to get it all buttoned up. After you get the wheel on then you need to put some tape on the horn button spring on top of the big nut so you can pop on the cap. Make sure to disconnect the power before you do all the horn hookup, I just figured it didn't matter much and started hooking it up but let me tell you the nice shiny metal makes for one good connection and it zapped the hell out of me. Good luck and if this makes absolutely no sense let me know and I can get some pictures of mine.

Re: putting on new Grant Steering Wheel

No the directions make sense. i can get everything right up until the part where i bolt everything to the actual column because the stud that holds the steering wheel on is too short for the bolt to actually catch any thread

Only thing I can think of trying is put just the aluminum hub piece on then put on the nut and tighten it down. This might pull the hub further in on the spines to get you more shaft to thread onto. then pull the nut off and try to put the wheel on again. Hope it is this easy to fix, good luck.
