upper control arm bent with zero miles?
i had ekstensive metal works build me a set of tubular arms, upper and lower. the upper a arm is now bent. the upper a arm should not have a lot of weight on it. i do not see how this thing got bent. what should i look for?
i am running 22.5 inch wheels turned down to 22s with the ten hole adapters. is there to much weight on the wheel side, will this cause the a arms to bend? any help would be great. thankx |

Re: upper control arm bent with zero miles?
pictures would help to see how they are bent.. the material they are made out of would help too! it would take some extreme force to bend some nice tube (correct material for control arms) control arms..

Re: upper control arm bent with zero miles?
i think i found my problem, when they designed the upper a arm they did not put enough angle in the ball joint mounting block. when i air up the truck it binds alot. i think the ball joint is winning over the material it is bolted to. this is where it bent. there is a gap under the balljoint where it is tweaked.

Re: upper control arm bent with zero miles?
I dunno if thats your only problem. I bought some upper and lower cups from them.. I didn't run them b/c they where made out of very i mean very thin metal. I wanna say in the neighbor hood of 18 gauge. Anyhow maybe that part of the problem too then material and bad angles? Oh and I wanna see picks of your dually.

Re: upper control arm bent with zero miles?
i was dissapointed in them also. the front end is really a mess. i need to get right. i use to praise ekstensive for the work they do. i am having second thoughts now. i have to get a roll back over here and get it to them to see what the hell is going on, maybe they will fix it.

Re: upper control arm bent with zero miles?
Who actually did the fab work? Employees come and go at any shop. I would talk to Bill about it.

Re: upper control arm bent with zero miles?
so you dropped the truck off ... they did the shoddy work & you still paid them?
did you not check the work they did for you BEFORE you paid? |

Re: upper control arm bent with zero miles?
I'm not trying to defend Bill, but I do know his shop stays busy all the time. I don't know who runs it these days when he travels, but its possible they felt this would work.
Let Bill have his say then respond from there.

Re: upper control arm bent with zero miles?
i had the truck at another shop doing the rear four link, we both agreed to take the truck to ekstensive to do the front since me nor him new nothing about front end geometry at the time. i did not see the truck for a while after he got it back. now i have the truck at my shop and fixing all the screw ups between them both. it was five years ago when i started this project. i have learned a lot since then. let me tell ya watch out at these supposed specialist. you can see what happens.
