I have a manual throttle control from a 1973 super cheyene This piece bolts under the dash and with the gas pedal. I am into 67 - 72 chevys but found this today. I can't remember ever seeing one before-you turn the knob and in turn the cable puts force on the gas pedal-I would think it would work for a PTO but this truck didn't have a PTO. Is this item rare, WIW?.....also have a tool box storage door from a 73 truck..it's on the driver side....never seen on a driver side....rare also?

Pictures this interests me I have never heard of a throttle set up like that before. And as for the tool box I take it is built into the bed side? I have seen lots of older (67-72) chevys with this and lots of fords but never on out years of trucks.

its a manual cruise control.

We had those on all of our work trucks at the Highway Department. that way we could set the engine RPMs to support the use of equipment that needed the engine operating.

The manual throttle control was a fleet copo option ;I have one that I took out of a 75 but it is the only one I have seen.The side toolbox was available 73-75.
Both hard to find...

Do you have the SPID stickers in the glove box or under hood...would be interesting to see if they show as an RPO

I had one on my red truck before I installed the cruise control.

As stated, it is to manually set the engine rpm for running a PTO or for charging the battery.

I don't think it was an RPO; it may have been an SEO ("Special equipment option) and was certainly available over the parts counter.

I'm am thinking I threw mine away several years ago (recall by that time my truck was long gone and I never dreamed it'd be back) but if I find it I'll post up a pic.

I even painted mine red to match the dash...

was made for de-weeding and hay. hahah no seriously. with this throttle set and very low geared tranny you can set it, then hop out and spread hay.... or de-weed with farm help.

chevy stopped making it after many people ran them selves over. ha.

I know it's not the correct year for the truck in question but here is the SPID for my 71 C10 that has the manual throttle. The difference is that the knob for mine is on the instrument cluster.

I had a friend named Chris in Sherwood Ark who had one on his 72 Chevy 4x4 with Detroit Lockers.
The problem was that he was a little crazy,,,we'd pile in the old truck and get a case of cold ones and out to the ball park or wherever away from people. Chris would find obstacles,,a big layed over tree, a large 10 foot high mound of fresh dirt or a ditch. He'd then set the truck's engine at about a thousand rpms. We'd sit down and have a cold one and watch the show. The truck would run unattended under and over objects that Chris decided to attack. It was great fun when your 18.
