Show Awards and Trophies

Hey guys,

I'm posting this here because it gets the most traffic. I wanted to see what different types of trophies and awards you guys have won at different shows over the years.

The Tennessee Classic Truck Club is putting on an ALL TRUCK show in July and we're trying to get ideas for awards. See my sig for info on the show(shameless plug). I would appreciate all the feedback you could give us. I'd like to do something different then the same old plaque or trophy.

So what'd ya get??

Re: Show Awards and Trophies

gift certificates for ECE or somewhere would be nice lol. (for the unfinished build).

Maybe a high quality picture of your truck in a neat truck themed frame.. I dunno. where is this show at. Sounds like fun in Tn.

Re: Show Awards and Trophies

Depending your budget - good items for future self promotion
Jackets
Shirts
These would be custom made and mailed after the show but would include like "class winner XYZ Super Truck show 2010"
You could also do medals - think Olympics - they have some really cool ones that do not cost a fortune - I get them at the triathlons and marathons that I run

Re: Show Awards and Trophies

There is a local church here that has a show yearly and their trophies are wood carved valve covers. They change the valve cover every year (like chevy 1 year, then a Hemi, etc).

I've got a wheel with flames coming off of it that is laser cut thin metal.

Also, got a clear plexiglass trophy with a small clock in the top.

Got a etched beer mug from a Hooters Show.

A local show gives out ceramic plates with different colors every year.

I will look at my collection from my 94 Chevy when I get home if you want pics of any of these I could probably get them.

One show I attended I won a trophy that was made from a piston and rod.

I won a welded open end-box end trophy once at a bike show, but don't have the pic with me.

I like the Piston idea, that's the route I'm thinking of going. Something a little unique.

Re: Show Awards and Trophies

We are just going to have 12-15 "Best Of" awards, such as bed, interior, paint, engine, etc.

Re: Show Awards and Trophies

Something you might consider then would be something like... for best engine a piston trophy, for best paint a paint gun trophy (i saw this once), and so on.

Re: Show Awards and Trophies

Having won many awards as well as been a show promoter for several years, let me throw my thoughts out here.

Don't do traditional trophies. Even small ones are pricey at the quantity you will be buying. People do not appreciate the cost of a small trophy, they perceive it as cheap.

Plaques are much more cost effective if you have them made. You can also make them yourself or have a volunteer make them.

In the past I had a guy that had woodworking skills make the board, and a trophy shop engrave the plague to stick on it.

The most well received plaques I ever gave out were made from Lexan. They were cut at a Plastic Supply company, then the edges were flamed polished which look like tempered glass edge.

We painted the back side and used of vinyl graphics for the event name. We added an engraved plaque for the class/date tag.

It did require some effort on my part, but the results were an award that some friends still have on their wall 20 years later.

Re: Show Awards and Trophies

Something home/ custom built or just a bit unusual than the normal trophy is probally the best idea. I have two that were unusual that I thought was different but probally not what you were looking for. One is a small trophy with the gas pump and the other was at an event sponsored from A. Bush which is a collector limited edition beer stein. Thought I'd share.

Ok. The most of them are done with computers and covered with a plexiglass. I think they look good and would be really reasonable to make. I also like the one from like Super Chevy that is rather generic. Instead of 1st 2nd and third theirs just say Ouststanding.
