68 rear diff help???

Is the 68 rear diff narrower then the 71??

4WD seems more narrow than 2WD as well...

I'm not sure about the '71 but the '72 rear is 3/4" wider on each side than the '68.

71 is as well and some of the later model 70's are too.

Does anyone know the lenght outside to outside of a 1968 rearend? The search function is not working for me and I tried google but got too many different answers.

thanks for the help guys! Is it worth keeping the 6 bolt and converting the front or going with the back and converting to 5? Just wondering for rim selection it seems there's a lot more selection for 6 bolt.
