Re: Rear mount gas tank?

I just put in a CPP Alum. tank this weekend, was a breeze. I got the whole kit (tank, sending unit, bed mount filler and cap) for $450 off their ebay store.

Re: Rear mount gas tank?

I found this on another web site this guy used a 1960 f**D falcon gas tank I asked him about it and he said with vary little modification it was a "drop in"...with very little hanging down under the rear...all he really had to do was change the filler to another location,he said because there has never been gas in the tank he didn't worry about fire............

Re: Rear mount gas tank?

I've used Aero Tanks in every one of my previous trucks- custom extended range tanks.

I'll likely be putting one in my 4x4 suburban as well, though I don't mind having the tank in the cab in my pickups.

He can make a tank to fit pretty much anything, also carries bed tanks, toy hauler tanks and pumps.

Here's the website:

Re: Rear mount gas tank?

Has anyone used this "universal" tank from tanks inc.? Looks to me like it would be a clean, simple install like the Falcon tank posted above. Is it the filler location that you guys don't like? I don't think it would bother me to have my filler in the bed floor, and I'd love to get my tank out of the cab.

Based on the dimensions shown in the Tanks link, 30-1/4 x 21-3/4, I think their "Universal" it is too big for our trucks. I used the Tanks 49-52 Chevy passenger car tank that is 27.5 x 19.5 and it was a tight fit... even after trimming the frame rails a bit.

And I will admit, for me, putting the gas filler neck in the floor of the bed wasn't something I wanted to do.

See mines in already but leaking cause of a poor exhaust job that resulted in it banging it and putting a hole in it. Any ideas what tank I have?

Re: Rear mount gas tank?

My first guess would be a '73+ Blazer tank. Does your original gas gauge work? Is your engine carbureted or EFI?

My truck is carbureted, and I wana say it's the original, I have no idea if it's the original gauge, I want to say it is but its a little off, never left me stranded so I'll put it like that... The tank measures 28 inches in width, and around 22 in length. I believe my truck originaly had like a 16 gallon tank so that's why it floats around a little bit with a 20-22 gallon.

It's a 64-66 Mustang/Falcon tank.

In looking at your pic a little closer, it looks like that tank is a poly tank?
