LED bulbs

been thinking about upgrading some of the lighting in my 72 burb with LED's. not looking to go to a high dollar conversion, just use some replacement bulbs. figure i can change the running light bulbs. if i don't change all the directional bulbs i should be able to do without a resistor or whatever you have to wire in to account for the lower current draw and still have the flasher cycle on and off. i also need to change out a dead (left) blinker on the dash when i pull it to add the tach and vac gauges. especially in the dash, LED's should be a nice touch since they won't have to be replaced very often, and draw far less power. i have a stock alternator with external regulator (mechanical unit replaced with slim electronic one). oh....i see in the latest LMC catalog that they carry a clear modern style lens for the stock interior light and also an LED bulb for it.

if anyone has a line on part number for replacement bulbs or the places with the best prices....let the rest of us know....thanks!

Re: LED bulbs

I've used www.v-leds.com before. They seem to have a pretty nice selection.

Re: LED bulbs

So what is required (wiring, extra parts wise) if you want to change out to the LED style? Or can you just pop in the LED bulbs?

i re-did the lighting in my explorer with LED's i just bought 100 led's on ebay for $30 and wired them in, whether it was project board, or made bulbs. here are some pics. it was definitely worth it for me. better lighting and i learned alot.

Re: LED bulbs

whether you hardwire it in, or make a bulb like i did, as long as it has resistors for a 12v application, youre good, just get the positive and negative right, the resistors go on the positive end. most LED's on ebay come with free resistors.

if you want to buy them instead, superbrightleds.com has a good selection. if you want the brightest though go with the SMD ones.
