Need opinions on 63 burb
I have been looking for a newer beater 4x4 to get me to work when needed. I'm essential personnel. I ran across this jewel. I'm on the fence and trying to decide if I'm getting screwed if I buy it. It's definitely cool, but very rusty. It also has 4 early mustang? seats instead of the originals. It is a factory 4x4 with 4spd trans, transfer case, drive shafts etc no engine or bell housing. The hood is perfect, everything else has issues. It comes with a disc brake front axle and some 64-6 body parts to cut for patches. It's more work than I want to deal with, but you know junk attracts me. What do you think? He's asking $1000
The pic is of the good side |

Re: Need opinions on 63 burb
I find every '60-'66 Chevy/GMC truck and Suburban hard to pass on, especially anything 4x4, but for $1K, I would pass on this one, for the following reasons:
1. Missing factory seats - with them, it may be worth it. 2. Barn doors, instead of clam shells. 3. Transfer case sitting in front of it, does not have the factory transfer case crossmember. 4. Burb portion of the body is in very rough shape - other sheet metal items are interchangeable with the trucks, so it is still, somewhat available. 5. No motor or tranny. I would see what you can get it for, but I believe, considering the overall condition, I think $1,000.00 is too high. |

Re: Need opinions on 63 burb
If you really want a big project- offer the guy 1/2 what he's asking. 1k is way too much for the amount of work it will take to make that truck a runner.
I picked up a 64 in about the same shape for about that last year. You're going to find a lot more mess when you start stripping it down, I guarantee, but if you're up for the challenge, have the time and money, go for it.

Re: Need opinions on 63 burb
I agree $1000 is way to much. He is open to offers , but probably wont like mine. The seats are what is holding me up. If the originals were there, it wouldn't be a question about buying it. The transfer case and transmission are still in it. I don't know what the case on the ground is for, it's a old pic.
I don't want or need another huge project. If I get it. I have a few different running engines to drop in, redo the brakes and drive. Maybe some spray can detailing. Will a 65 body work on a 63 frame? My panel has a nice body. |

Re: Need opinions on 63 burb
Yes a '65 panel body is a direct swap onto a '63 frame as long as the wheelbase is the same.
I agree that $1K is too much even though I would really love to have another '63 4x4 Suburban. Offer him what you're thinking.....the worst he can say is no.....well I guess he could say worse.

I offered $600 he turned it down. So I'm looking again. It's probably for the best. I usually wait and have second thoughts after I hand over the cash.

Re: Need opinions on 63 burb
I agree..to much for so little. Just talked to a guy name Ken up in Goldsboro, NC, less than 200 mi. from you. He's asking $500 for a '63 burb that's been sitting for a while. Straight six with 3 speed. Looks to have the original seats and bumpers. Lots of surface rust, rotted pans and lower panels but in better shape than the one you were trying to buy. If I weren't in the middle of restoring my '63 step and had the time and ...blah..blah..blah, I would love to make this my next project. I'll pass on some pix and contact info. Seller's name is Ken: 919-778-1454 after 6:00 pm.

It's called rust Joemamma1 and it never sleeps in this part of the country. For every '60 to '66 it eats, ours just becomes more rare and valuable!

Re: Need opinions on 63 burb
Nice Suburban by the way...I paid $500 more for my '63 Stepside and it's got a long way to go. I can't wait to get my hands on one. A mild chop with the roof sloping down in the rear with a hatch will be my next project!

Re: Need opinions on 63 burb
We worked out a junk for junk swap. So right now It looks like I'm getting the burb. I'll use it for parts if nothing else. I have enough extra parts I think I can make it a driver with little or no cash. I might just put the panel body on it while I build the 2wd frame.
aboz thanks for telling me about the one in NC I'll see if he still has it when I get this one home |

Re: Need opinions on 63 burb
The front seat in the '63 Burb, shown in the photo, is not a factory Suburban front seat/jump seat.
