Question Can I set my 72 on a 96 rolling chassis?

Have you ever seen anyone set a 67-72 chevy onto a newer 88-99 rolling chassis? There is only 2.5" difference between the two wheelbases. Sure would be a nice driving truck.

I'm a welder/fabricator by profession so i have the means and desire to take this on, my main concern is how the frame rails by the front cab corners really seem very different in their curvature. Not sure how much modification would be needed in that area.

I think it would be easier to use the 72 frame and put new components on and I think it would be even better handling and ride pretty smooth.

the 88+ trucks have a much wider frame rail. It would be a good build, but a lot of work.
Go for it

Re: Can I set my 72 on a 96 rolling chassis?

you can do it!! plan it out don't be in a rush. i did something similar. set the cab on jack stands and lots of wood blocks to get the space right. Set the fenders on this will determine if you need to message the fire wall, once you get the front down the back will be a piece of cake. things to remember when you disconnect a wire label it. you can remove them later but for now the more information you have the better. try to have a complete plan before cutting anything. you will also remove the cab alot make sure you have the space to do it. i did mine on a gravel drive that went down hill.

i had the local metal supplier bend up a piece of 1/8 thick steel. then cut this and welded tabs on the side these became my body mounts.

oh one more point cut the frame horns off the old frame makes mounting the bumper on easier. i made mine smooth due to the width of the frame differences. i could of fabed up some brackets but liked the idea of smooth.
