1976 Canadian Olympic Edition
I think someone linked this truck here recently, from youtube I believe. Long story short, I got in touch with him and he sent me some info and pictures of his truck, which he said I could put on 73-87.com. His name is Everett, and is a super nice guy. I told him about this place...hopefully he checks in and says hi.

Re: 1976 Canadian Olympic Edition
Good eye Dennis. I thought the square gas doors started in 1980. And what about the front and rear bumpers? Are they the Deluxe front bumer for '76? Nice truck though. I like the red over the white. That's unique.

Re: 1976 Canadian Olympic Edition
Very cool.
That bed has been replaced. I've thought about doing the same thing on my Gentleman Jim. I don't think the lack of originality would make too much difference on value (unfortunately these truck just aren't to that level yet...) and the fuel fillers with gas doors are much better. As many of you know, the new gas hoses with vapor return and all that are hard to use with the old style beds.

Re: 1976 Canadian Olympic Edition
Kind of weird that both of those 76's have gas doors on the bed .

Re: 1976 Canadian Olympic Edition
The second one doesn't have the olympic symbol on the bed either. I'd say both beds have been changed.

Re: 1976 Canadian Olympic Edition
That seems more logical than "both" trucks having swapped beds.
Regardless, I think it's a cool combo. Wonder if they were all LWB.

Re: 1976 Canadian Olympic Edition
Jeff, thank you for sharing that truck with us. I love the fact that it is a true factory option. Not just dealer installed like most "special edition" trucks were. Can you contact the owner for a picture or 2 of the engine bay? Or do you maybe have a couple? I am curious what they did with the paint on the inner fenders, firewall, etc. I assume it was all white. But parts could be red too. If you can that would be awesome. That truck is very cool. Very very cool. I like that.
Sorry, got out of hand there.

Re: 1976 Canadian Olympic Edition
The Canadian trucks changed filler doors in 79,same as USA;living with winter snow from October to April we have lots of salt on the roads so changing out the box for a newer one is common.
As far as I know these were only sold as long boxes;the Wrangler(another Canadian Edition) was available in long or short. |

Re: 1976 Canadian Olympic Edition
The second truck looks like the front sheet metal has been replaced, or at least repainted.

Re: 1976 Canadian Olympic Edition
Actually the square door was available as early as 78, when GM started producing unleaded fuel trucks, they started using the square door. This is how GM differentiated between regular fuel and unleaded fuel trucks, regular fuel, round hole, unleaded fuel, square door.

Square vs round hole has nothing to do with fuel type. In general the square fuel doors started in 79 on pickups.
